Salvage yard H-Pipe for conversion?

Does anyone know of an H-pipe that would fit my set up I could pull from a salvage yard? I have the 5.0, w/ Heddman shorties, power steering, and the AOD. I would love to find one that fit, or came darn close. The real question is whether any cars came with 2 1/2" pipes?

Anyone have the knowledge to answer this one?

Not to be a jackass, but why would you want to? A muffler shop shouldnt charge over $100 if youre trying to make it fit an existing exhaust system. All the work it would take to make something else (maybe) fit to save $50 doesnt seem like it would be worth it to me. I would say maybe a fox body Mustang or Mark VII would be a good start tho.

No worries. I have to have the shop put the whole thing together, make an H Pipe, intermediate to muffler, and connect my Flowmaster tail extensions. All new installation. The said it would not be more than $375. Why I am choking on the deal is that the Flatbed tow will be close to $300 for down and back to my home. I was just trying to eliminate some costs. If I can find an H-pipe that is 2.5"s for the 5.0, I might be able to put it together myself???

I would drive it without pipes (LOOOUUUDDDD but fun), but I need the O2 sensors for the EFI to run clean.

I drove my '88gt to the muffler shop with open headers and no problems with the o2 sensors. Was it loud?? yes, but, if you don't be foolish you shouldn't have any problems with the police. I actually drove next to a police officer on my way to the shop...nothing said/asked. Just be EASY on the go peddle.

I'll do the same w/ the '65..no big deal. Save the flatbed fees....

It would be fun, but here in Colorado, they ain't that cool. My sister works for the Police Dept and she said I would be pulled over instantly???

I think I will just disconnect the driveshaft and do the two wheel dolly thing... $40 per day beats $300+ any day.

I understand...tow dolly is the lesser of two evils....

Ya, the tow dolly will cost you less then trying to get a junkyard exhaust to fit. I'm surprized they are that anal about driving open header over there. We had strict emmisions laws in California and really strict street racing laws in LA. I drove my 67 from my house to the exhaust shop and passed at least 1 law enforcement vehicle on they way. They didn't give me so much as a second look. I think there is a misconception around here that old cars are suppose to be loud...

+1 i have 2 1/2" flow through glass packs that are essentially straight pipes, and i am followed or around other cop cars probably 3 days a week to work, and never been touched.

I am pretty confident that I would get pulled over if I passed a LEO while trying to run open headers. I pissed off a few neighbors doing that.

Then again, if they were going the opposite direction, all I have to do is push in the clutch and kill that roaring sound.
