I've got a 95 Ranger with the 2.3L. Just wondering if this is basically the same motor as the SVO 'Stang but with EFI and DIS?

Yes, it's the same LIMA 2.3...with a different head, pistons, ignition, injectors, ecu, air meter, etc.

The SVO was also EFI...

The head on the 95 is a dual plug, meaning it has 2 spark plugs per cylinder. So yeah, pretty much the only thing that is the same is the block itself. Even the pistons are different!

The rods are the same...the crank is the same except for the size of the main bearing journals...

Stinger, I believe the 95-97 ranger 2.3L uses the same rod as the '98-00 2.5L, that is, 5.4", not 5.2". Weird, huh?
