Was wondering if anyone was running the SCT 3 bank chip? I think thats what they call it. American muscle sells it for $270 with 3 tunes. All the ratings on their site seem to be good. I have heard mixed reactions about Bama Tuning. Just wanted to get some feedback from members that are running it.

What are your mods? You won't get much gain out of a chip with a mostly stock car. When you start changing injectors and or MAF and H/C/I or power adder, is when a chip is really needed.

I have one. I can't feel a difference. My car doesn't idle nearly as well when I'm using one of the non stock programs. With the stock program I have a very good idle (for a B cam) and the IAC does everything it should. When I use their program my idle hangs up for a while above 1,000 RPM and then it idles down and starts surging.

I only got one because of my nitrous. I didn't want to drive around all of the time with my timing at 8°. With the switch chip I can have the normal advanced timing and then just switch the chip to retard the timing for nitrous.

OP, The 4-bank eliminator chip is the best way to get the most out of your modifications. Without it, you will not be able to run the correct timing and fuel trims necessary when upgrading things like intake/exhaust.

They also come with a convenient dial/toggle-switch to allow you to switch between tunes on the fly. This is nice because you can run street/performance/race tunes all on the same octane and just switch on the fly which one you wanted to use. And with our free tunes for life program, you can keep updating the chip as you upgrade the car!

I would highly recommend one, you definitely won't regret it.

I'm terribly sorry to hear that you are having trouble with our tune on your application. Have you contacted our tuning specialists regarding it? You haven't updated parts on the car without getting an updated tune, have you?

Please feel free to PM me directly or email our tuning specialists at Bama@americanmuscle.com if you have any questions/concerns or if you would like us to look into your calibration for any possible updates/modifications.

Let me know!

To be 100% honest Chris, I don't trust you guys. And I'll tell you why.

When I bought the chip I tried to use the online spec sheet. It failed to work so I had to call you guys on the phone. I called, the tech asked me a bunch of questions, I answered them and you guys sent my chip. On the included build sheet it said that I had a stock cam. You contacted me once before and said you'd check into seeing whether or not they tuned for a B cam or not. You sent me this PM:

My pleasure, Richard!

that's what I'm here for!

Just checked your tune calibration and its definitely set for the B cam!
I hope this helps!

please let me know if you have any questions in the future!

-Chris

I fail to understand how they could have tuned for a B cam if they didn't know I had one (the tech never asked about my cam) until after I received the chip.

And no, not a single thing has changed about my setup. I've only had the chip for 6 or 8 weeks now.

Let me also point out that when YOU first contacted me, you said that you don't tune chips for a cam.

We don't offer tunes for most cams on 5L cars http://www.stangnet.com/mustang-forums/846219-disgusted-american-muscle-2.html#post8512836

And then you PMed me that you had in fact tuned for the B cam without even knowing that I had one.

I have read that if there is any Ford letter cam that needs a tune, it's the B cam. There are companies that make a tune specifically for the B cam.

That hypertech probably just has the idle speed raised along with the other HACK programming they have on there , just basically maxes out the spark borderline table to 43 degrees so that it basically runs off the MBT spark table at all times , I have read the programming on the hypertech chips and its a HACK job at best

I bought a SCT chip after I did my H/C/I set up. they promised me free upgrades for life or something like that. Well when I bought my supercharger and called them for a upgrade of some sort they said they could not help and that I would be better off taking it to a local shop for a tune. I ask them then what good was there chip for and the tech told me that there chips only help with heads cam or intake mods thats about it. So my recommendation is do your upgrade but if your serious about tunning it take it to get a "custom tune" and Im quoting SCT.

Thanks for the info. I will probably bag it. I dont know if Ive modified enough to warrant a custom tune. Ive got a stock bottom end with a B cam advanced 4 degrees,GT40 heads,Explorer intake,70mm TB with 19lb injectors,BBK longtubes,BBK offroad X pipe.

I'm glad I ran across this thread. I was planning on trying one of these out from AM for my 87'. I have a friend that was trying to get one but AM said they could not do it because he had a 306 instead of a stock block 302. Not sure why and he did not go into detail but other than a 306 and a B cam his setup was pretty basic.

I would not beleive these chips would work with my setup and i would have too see it in action before I spent the cash because for not much more you can get a dyno tune around here.

I have to be fair and post an experience I had with this chip yesterday. I was messing around and decided to use the performance program of the SCT chip. I was riding up a 4 lane road and a red SN-95 GT pulled up next to me at a traffic light. The light turned green and we both pulled off moderately with me about a half car length ahead. Then I saw his fender starting to move forward and I nailed my car. I was in second at about 3,000 RPM when I did it. I couldn't hardly believe how badly I whipped his car. It wasn't even close.

The truth is also that I've never raced or seen that car before and I have no idea how much the chip had to do with it, but the chip doesn't seem to have hurt performance.

I run the SCT 3bank in my car (357 windsor) and I does everything I need. It holds my street tune, and my nitrous tune. I would NEVER rely on a mail order tune regardless of combo. My tuner does his thing, mustang could not run any better
