I'm starting to learn the software along with how to tune. My mustang has a stall issue after start. I've narrowed down the problem to the perimeters being incorrect on the MAF table and maybe fuel table. It obviously needs more air to idle or less fuel to compensate for less air. I've recorded the maf at 7 g/s with a 4 inch pipe and I'm looking to start adjusting the tables. I'll post a few pics to help you understand my question and what I need to do. You will have to give me time to post a snippet of the table. I'm at work but will be off in 2 hours so I'll post a screen shot and maybe you can help from there.

The base tune that was given to me would not allow the car to idle. I was told to adjust the MTF by multiplying every line by 1.3. When I did this and updated the table it wouldn't even start then. My question is: why would I multiply by 1.3. I don't understand the equation or why by 1.3. I was then told if this didn't work multiply by .7. This appears to reduce the numbers when multiplying by .7 rather than add to them when multiplying by 1.3.

They are telling you to add 30% (1.3) to the MTF table (increasing fuel) or reduce it by 30% (.7) (decrease fuel)....

It's a simple trick to get the car to run when first beginning tuning.

The MAF table is where you will do your tuning 90% of the time.
The base fuel table looks like a lambda table, it works as a multiplier table.
1=14.7afr
.86=12.6afr
Take the number in the table and multiply by 14.7 to give yourself a number most of us are used to seeing. The fuel equation is going to take the stoic of the fuel (usually 1 for gas) then divide by this number in the table to get the fuel multiplier.... greater than 1 in the table will result in a multiplier less than 1 thus reducing fuel. Greater than 1 more fuel.
If this does not make sense I can explain it differently....

Made perfect sense. So what is the load and how do I figure that out. Right now my mustang starts up easily and revs up. Then immediately drops to stall. I believe the IAC is commanded open at start then closes causing no more air to enter which is killing the motor. The MAF table below is the current tune put on the stang. Should I multiply by .7 as to bring the fuel down. I believe its getting too much causing the mixture to not be correct. It sounds like it wants to combust but doesn't. I smell alot of gas which leads me to believe its too rich. BTW I'll be purchasing a wideband air/fuel gauge to install on my stang to give me lambda. I will also be purchasing a fuel pressure gauge.

To me that seems like a major problem, with the maf disconnected the car is running on the open loop tables, with it connected the maf is taken into account. However the startup options should not be affected by the maf unless there is something else wrong....
Has any wiring been done on the car? Maf looks aftermarket
What has been changed?

As I'm unfamiliar with your software I may need some screenshots of the functions/tables in the future.

The MAF is aftermarket. I had the Ford Performance MAF and replaced it with a bama 90 MAF. Both MAF's were 90mm. It was having a problem with the original maf and was told by a tuner to replace it with a bama one so I purchased the BA3000 90mm from SCT so my MAF and SCT tuner would match. No wiring has been done. I was told the MAF needs updated in the tune.

So with the maf disconnected the car reverts to open loop. With the maf connected it reverts to closed loop. So something in closed loop could be failing to report the correct numbers causing the car to adjust improperly and not start. Is this what your saying when something more serious could be wrong?

Yes, if you changed the maf out the new transfer function needs to be put in. The transfer function should have come with the maf or should be available. Unless it was stated to be a direct replacement (no tune needed)

Click to expand...
That is correct, you likely have the maf settings wrong based on the previous statement.
I would check on this first before making anymore changes to the tune.

The MAF didn't include any information regarding the transfer function. Here is the MAF I own. https://www.sctflash.com/Products/accessory/sct/152/90mm-big-air-maf-meter
Where would I find this?

You need to contact SCT and get the information from them.

I updated the table and will try this on Thursday when I'm off work. I'll report back with my results.

The table made no change aside when disconnecting the maf it idle'd lower around 700-800 instead of the original table at 900-1000. It still stalls with the maf connected. I went negative on the base tune file by 2 times then 4 times(.7) and it made no difference. So i multiplied the base tune by 1.3 by times 2 then times 4 and it made no difference. Still stalled. It runs without the maf everytime I updated the changes and did change the way it ran so the cpm is taking the tune. I feel like closed loop runs but on open loop something isn't providing the proper data. Could an oxygen sensor cause this issue if it has failed. I don't have any trouble codes.

no, the o2 is only for feedback.

I would suspect the MAF sensor at this point, do you have a stocker to put in for testing?
