Toyotas are the best built vehicles on the road. Just got done doing a 6 week research paper about the company. There quality control methods and defects per million units developed is far superior to anything in America. People can argue if it makes them feel better, saying I relpaced this and that on a toyota and its crap. Well, guess what......? I can take a freakin M1A1 tank and find a way to break it if I dont take care of it or maintain it right. Also, every manufactured vehicle in the world has problems. Some more than others. The facts are out there, research it. Ford, GM, and Dodge all know how far they lag behind Honda, BMW, and Toyota in their quality control methods.

As far as my current vehicles or current family vehicles

MY 97 Toyota 4 runner limited, 218,000 miles, only problem was one of the coil packs went out at 201K

Dads 98 Toyota 4 runner, 283,000 miles, needed new alternator at 240K

Brothers 05 Tacoma, 108, 000 miles, no problems

Brothers 98 f150, 5.4 liter, 172,000 miles, Transmission gone out, rear end needed to be fixed, fuel pump(proboly his fault from running it dry all the time), and thats all I know

River house, 2000 f150, 5.4 4x4, 153,000 miles, lots of little problems, nothing major


For anybody on here to tell another person to give away there mustang to somebody more deserving or whatever ....... you sound like idiot.

Page 35 of the owner's manual says:

"Notice: Avoid driving with the tailgate open".

Yet they sell a bed extender...

That post came from another discussion from more intelligent people on the subject of Toyota's multiple issues. These are all NEW issues. You could spend weeks finding all of the other issues they have had for YEARS!!!Toyota cant design a cylinder head to save their life.

Guys, you don't need to do any research. ANY car will last a long time, if you take care of it. Somehow Toyota /Honda have brainwashed people into thinking they make the most reliable cars. But many Ford cars are just as reliable, if not better.

Think about the Ford Crown Vics (taxi cabs) and Police Interceptors with the 4.6L engine. Those things are driven thousands of miles every week, and they still run great. My friend has a 03 crown vic with 280k miles on it, and it runs perfect! Original engine/tranny etc.

So stop the b1tching. If you want a truck that can make it up a huge mountain or something good for off road, you need a v8 (not a weak toyota v6) with AWD or 4X4. Trucks are heavy, so you need more power than what a v6 provides.

Nope, got an A... You learn a little more in graduate school about companies than you do trolling the internet like yourself. You get your hands on actual records of the companies.

How much do you know about designing parts, placing quality control methods in the proper area of manufacturing, and producing parts that last. You have a lot to learn.... .Toyota is starting to take over if you have been keeping track of their earnings. The company is unbelievably successful. Laughing at my response when you have no experience working with six sigma, a Lean Quality System, or any other quality control system is beyond your comprehension. Anybody can sit here and place links to errors in manufacturing on any brand of vehicle, with respect to quality or deficiencies or anything else. Studying actual figures from each company is different.

Lol those v6 jeeps are worthless for mountain terrain. They are heavy and slow.

If you want a real all-terrain vehicle, you need a Ford v8 truck with 4X4, lift kit, and massive tires (not a v6). What's next, 4 cylinder "rock crawlers"???

no toyota campaign here, just adding my input, for whatever its worth. Sorry to be offensive. Obviously, I own both vehicles, and like each for what they are. I have had a lot of experience with both and its just funny to see this thread. I have this argument with my family a lot, half of them side with ford, the other half with toyota. Eitherway, let the discussion continue, and best of luck with your headswap. I've done 2 on my own cars, and one on my brothers, so let me know if you have any problems and maybe I can be of use without being an ass

Actually guys, you don't need a big V8 to go off road. When your crawling at 5-10mph a 4 or 6 cylinder will have enough power. Off road is all about the gears and your tires. I've been up in the mountains several times with my friend that has a v6 Nissan Xterra and it seems to do just as good as my 5.0 F-150.

A big V8 is nice for towing a load up hill, not really for offroading.

But like said earlier a Toyota is good for a COMPACT truck, but if you need a truck for bigger things get a full size Ford. I'd seriously look at some Ford Rangers too, I've always liked those.
