HEy guys, my buddy has a 98 gt(stock 98 engine) with a procharger p1sc (8lbs). The blower has been on for 3500 miles and this past weekend it shredded the serpintine belt. We got a new belt and had trouble puttin it on but got it and 2 seconds after we started the belt jumps off of the ac condeser and that is when it begins to shred the belt. We took the belt off and put it on and it did this eash time we did it. I also noticed that the tensior pulley arm has only about 1/2 inch of movement when the belt is on and that makes alot of pressure on the belt. With the belt off i inpected each pulley that i could spin and none were bent or anything abnormal. Any ideas, suggestions, etc????? We are stuck and do not know what to do.

Make sure the blower pulley is lined up perfectly with the others for one. I would also reccomend upping the width of the belt. I've heard many stories about people throwing belts, even with low boost. There should be alot of tension on the belt, seeing as how it has to turn the blower.

Make sure your belt is completely aligned on the a/c condenser. I know it sounds stupid, but after i replaced a squealing tensioner pulley I had the same problem. Turns out the belt was only halfway on the a/c pulley. If you take the bracket that covers the tensioner arm off youll create a lot more slack, if you hadnt noticed yet, and its much easier to put the belt on.

1996 to 1998 had a TSB for belt issues. 1st thing to-do is check the belt tensioner and see if it has an aluminum arm, if so these were prone to bending/bowing, causing the belt not to track straight. we sell a tensioner kit, tensioner has a steel arm, comes wth a new stock lenght belt, also recommend the belt guide from the TSB. other parts in the TSB were a flanged water pump pulley and a flanged P/S pump pullie.

You guys are missing the fact that he has a procharger running 8 lbs of boost, it could very well be causing his belt shredding problem. I say, make sure all the pulleys are lined up, and get a high quality belt, I would also reccoment upping the width of the belt. I think there is a kit on the market for a 12 rib conversion or something of that nature.

ditto. altho 12 rib is overkill. there are 8 rib kits out there that will work just fine.

Is this kit available for 2000 with a P1sc.
