If your Sony unit has a 12v output to the subs you will need a voltage regulator to reduce it to 5v. Otherwise your amps will "pop" each time they turn on

Easiest way to install is to buy a Metra harness to wire to the head unit then just plug into the existing car harness

I also recommend the mounting kit

Installation is pretty easy. I added a Pioneer AVIC-D2 with XM and Ipod and couldn't be happier.

I inquired about replacing the head unit on my car, I have the 1000, and the place I get my audio stuff from said it can be done, but on top of the price for the head unit you have to get two converters, one for the bass and one for the mids and highs, in order to use the stock amps and speakers, he priced it out at 50 for each converter. I was going to do this for the ipod connection but went with the converter that plugs into the aux port on the stock unit instead.
