How do they differ? I was told that the hypertech increases line pressure to the trans and is pretty good, but a shift kit can help u shift even harder. I know my car shifts wayyy faster with the programmer and can chirp 1-2 and 2-3 shifts if I floor it. I know the j-mod is supposed to be good, but how would it compare to the programmers shift firmness option?

Yep, they just "up" the line pressure. I also have been told to skip a shift kit. There is a night and day difference when you set it firm with a Predator.

Linktrek "supposedly" did the j-mod but nothing posted.
I personally don't have confidence in the J-mod but that's just me. If others wanna chance it, so be it.

Yeah I agree with u guys, I think my programmer makes my car shift much faster and u can always put the computer back to the stock program for warranty work. The ford mechanic that installed my gears says he's happy with his diablo pred. for his 04 mustang auto/GT, but said the j-mod is a good mechanicl shift upgrade.

Im selling my Superchip Microtuner for a pretty good price, let me know if your interested.

I was under the impression that when the first car gets hooked up to the programmer....it "marries" itself to that car and can only be used for that exact car. Did I hear wrong??

If im wrong, i may be interested. However, i need it to cancel the MILs...does the superchip tuner do that?

thnx

had a friend with a 98 gt auto had hypertech programer on it no shift kit but said yes to make shifts firmer and trans went about 4 months later! and the manuel for the hypertech says the same thing DO NOT PUSH YES ON TRANNY SHIFTFIRMNESS IF U DO NOT HAVE AN AFTERMARKET SHIFT KIT PUT IN!!!!!!!

all a shift kit does a pretty much put a bigger spring to let more oil run into the trans without it u would be putting to much pressure on the lines no where for the extra oil to run.....

This statement is wrong. It must have been a coinsedence that the transmission only lasted 4 months. Here is a quote from Hypertech's install instructions found at

http://www.hypertech-inc.com/install_instructions/pp10/pp10pg4.html

Press ‘Y’ if you have installed an aftermarket shift kit into your automatic transmission. The shift kit has already firmed up your shifts. You DO NOT want your programmer to make them even firmer because transmission damage may occur.
NOTE: Pressing ‘Y’ lets your programmer know that it is not to program shift firmness and you will skip to the Report.

Press ‘N’ if you have not installed an aftermarket shift kit into your automatic transmission. Pressing ‘N’ will give you the following choice: PRESS Y FOR FIRMER SHIFTING

Yeah, if u have a shift kit, dont elect the shift firmer option with hypertech cause your trans may get damaged. Another friend has used the hypertech in his auto 01/GT without problems for three years as well.
