hey i was researching some shift lights and tachs and i was wondering what u thought.. no matter what im going with autometer heard great things and them seem not to fail.. my big dilemma is that i dont think i want a huge tach cause it looks kinda ricerish.. so i was considering the autometer digital tube light and i would mount it on my steering column.

have anybody had any ideas or heard about this product

plus the pros and cons of having each will help.. thanks guys oo it will be used with a msd 6 digital box if that helps at all

a shift light in the vent, is pretty suttle. If you want a tach I think you can get an Autometer full guage setup to replace your stock guages, it looks pretty trick. a shift light with that looks good.

If you're worried about the monster tach look, go with Florida gauges. (florida50.com) and through a shift lite in a vent/on the steering column.

This sounds exactly like what your looking for, I also think monster tachs are gay.

Autometer sells smaller versions of the monster tach with a "pen" shift light on them now. If I hadn't already purchased the Pro Form (40 bucks on Jegs) adjustable shift light (which I do love), I would buy one.

Think about it, you want a tach to monitor your revs and a light to tell you when to shift. Why not just have the freakin shift light. Thats what's important. Do you really need to know that your turning 2652RPM when your cruising around town?

I like the tach out of the way (under my glove box right now) and the shift light on my steering column. You HAVE to use a light boot on this kind of setup or expect to be blinded by the shift light. (don't ask how i found that one out lol)

Damn! I wanted to mount a tach like that, and I asked around for a while, and I had never seen any one else do it (Father's open track car has it). I've never seen it on a Fox, but now I have!

How did you mount it?

Oh, and my shift light is mounted on the side of the dash, similar to where most people put it. Right on the side by the two "push" switches. I'll take pictures if you would like.

There is a tab on the bottom of the dash...i dunno what to call it really but it was pretty sturdy and didn't serve any purpose so i screwed the mount to that. I don't like having a big 5 inch tack in my face while i'm focusing on the road or track or whatever....i figure, the shift light is there to tell you when to shift so why does everyone need to stare at the tach all the time? The only real purpose is for tuning if you ask me, aside from actually setting where the light comes on. Eventually i want to do a full gauge cluster in the stock location.

I'd love to do a Florida50.com gauge cluster, but they are pretty expensive.

Thanks for the tip!

The little tab thing might not be there on '87+ cars...you just have to get creative. There should be something under the dash to mount it to.

Here's something I tried. It's different and looks alright, kinda "in your face" though.

Well, while that's not quite as bad as it is in a 4 eye since my dash it all flat and it sits right on top, i'd still prefer it out of the way or better yet just in the stock location. Once i get my car painted and looking how i want it on the outside, i'm gonna attack the interior and that's probably my first goal is to do a full custom gauge cluster.

Mines like strypes only the light is on the other side right above the dash! Some call it ricey, I like being able to know the RPM, and have the shift light at the track!

I also agree that a huge 5" tach does look a littler ricerish. I do like them...but not for my car.

In my 5.0, i have a small Autometer shift light with RPM pills. I set the correct pill in and shift when the light comes on. No tach needed.
