Ok, I have a pro 5.0 shifter in my car with the stock black handle. It's ok, but its farther forward than I would like. So I've been shopping around for new shifters and have narrowed it down to 3 or 4. Let me know if you have one of them/what you liked/what you didn't like etc.

The steeda comfort pro was the one I wanted at first, but the more I looked at it it looks like it comes too close to the driver for my taste.

Does any body know where to get the Hurst sticks by themselves? I can't seem to find it. ( I am going to call hurst tomorrow probably) Im kinda thinking the rock crusher lookes cool...

I'll probably either get a Hurst T-handle or the white ball, but I am definitely getting this ball to match the car:SNSign:

i use the tri ax handle and shifter with the Hurst black shifter ball.
i set the handle as low as it can go for the shortest shift possible.
its only a tiny bit of a reach when shifting into 5th.
all other gears are fine.

in the package, the Hurst ball looked a little big.
i was worried it would be too large for my hand.
once i installed it,i was suprised how natural it felt in my hand while shifting.

here's a pic.

I have the UPR shifter handle and like it, but my Bullit knob doesnt work on it like the picture shows. The threads are too far up in the knob and it just sits on top of the handle's threads.... Also, it didnt mount right up to my B&M pro ripper, I had to modify it a little to bolt up.

Do you have any pics? I read somewhere that it doesn't angle toward the driver at all...I wonder how that would feel.

I've driven a couple of my buddy's cars with the tri-ax and it's ok, but it's a lot like what I have...

Tom95gt- I'm really liking the roush handle. It's a a little more than I had planned on spending, but I think I'd really like it. The agent 47 handle looks really cool too, but I think that's a little too extreme

I'll go take a couple pics, but I have a warning. Its ugly as hell right now, cause I still have the stock shift boot and stock knob on it! (have to modify my bullit knob to fit, and my Redline boot is on order) I'll have them posted soon, you will be surprised how far back it comes to you.

Heres a couple quick shots because its friggin below zero outside right now...

Hope these help some. I really like the feel of it actually, I can sit back in seat better now. Just need to fix it cosmetically.

Edit: I reread your post and Im sorry that my pics dont show any angle toward the drivers seat. I was just thinking about the angle back toward the rear of the car. Its makes the reach much shorter though, and basically within a few inches of the driver's seat when in second. Let me know if you want another pic and can take another one.

That looks great! :nice: I actually ended up ordering that one except without the holes in it. MUSTANG-UPR Products.com
Was the bullit knob a UPR peice? I'm not sure where I'm gonna get a ball from yet...
Did you have to stretch the hole on the stock shift boot at all to fit on the bottom of the shaft?

You are going to want an aftermarket boot. The stock one bunches up too much and doesnt allow you to shift normally. But to answer your question, yes I had to slightly cut the hole out to fit over the handle. I didnt realize UPR offered a handle without the holes until after I had already bought mine, otherwise I would have gone for the smooth one also... I got my Bullit knob off ebay, so maybe one from UPR would fit, but I dont know why they would be different, because my Bullit knob fit my stock shifter, and my B&M pro ripper just fine before I changed to the UPR handle. That was one hell of a run on sentance. Anyway, here is the website I ordered my new boot from, they offer custom sizes (I got 2 1/2" shorter than stock, but think I may should have gone 3" shorter...).

Yeah, I think I'm gonna hold off on getting the boot. My grandmother can sew real good so I might just unstich mine and cut some off and have her re-sew it.

I was looking at the Pypes o/r X for my longtubes, but I haven't heard much about them good/bad, so I'll prob go with the BBK peice. I'll prob order it next week:nice:

I know you already bought a handle, but I thought I would update my pics for anyone else interested. I put on my modified Bullit knob, Redline shift boot, and UPR ring. It looks much better! The Redline boot is awesome leather, way nicer than stock.

Edit* downsized pics cause they were huge...

Sweet setups. I love the hurst stick/T handle though. I should have this setup in my car in about a week

I ordered a triax, and am getting that stick/handle off of a friend with a Mach 1. Still gotta find an oval rubber boot though..

Looking good! :nice: I absolutely LOVE mine. I put the Hurst T-handle on it and it is soooo much more comfortable.

http://www.cardomain.com/ride/3219967/2 Here's my cardomain with my new shifter pics. I wasn't sure how I'd like the T-handle, but my dad loves em and this one has sure made me a believer:SNSign:

Looks good man. I have a B&M T-handle, but didnt really think to put it on there. I might have to try it sometime just for giggles. Glad yours turned out how you wanted it. :nice:

anyone got any comparo data between various shifters,
i.e. a back issue of magazine x, or y, which may have had a shifter shoot out for these cars, way back when?

i have a 95 GT with T5,
it is a track car only, the shifter is, and will remain bootless.
the current hurst shifter seems a little loose and sloppy.

my co-owner and co-driver and I are both a little pudgy, with short arms,
and both seem to have a reach to 5th gear, when strapped into our 6 point harness. . . .
unless we are trying to go from 4th to 3rd, IN WHICH CASE WE BOTH FIND 5TH TOO OFTEN.

so we are looking for a new shifter,
i want (1) the shortest throws possible,
but also (2) want to be able to reach it (we aren't dwarves, but just not very long-armed, either)

i like the look of the shifter in post 16 above, but that looks like a damn long throw.
thoughts?
thanks,
doc
