so i just installed the new mgw shifter in the cobra about a week ago and yesterday i started to notice a slight grinding noise from the same area . it loudest right as each gear catches as i shift to it. the wierd thing is that i can only notice it when my hand is touching the ball on the handle. so if i shift and then instantly let my hand off the handle i dont hear it. when installing the shifter i noticed there was a tiny slit in the inner dust boot. i dont know if that would cause this noise or not but does anyone have any ideas?

That noise is typical with most aftermarket shifters. What you need are those thick gaskets, that absorb most of the noise and vibrations revealed by the new shifter. I'm sure someone can come up with a link to one.

That's part of a 2 piece kit I saw somewhere. There was that gasket, and a fat gasket that went between the shifter and the transmission.

I also have some noise with my MGW. It's not that loud. Pearl02.

Mines as quiet as the original shifter was. I bought the gasket from MustangTuning instead of using the RTV. You could try reappling the RTV thicker this time, maybe you squeezed enough out to get metal on metal where the shifter sits on the trans ?
