I finished up a t5 swap not too long ago and I am having problems with the shifter. the car is hard to put into gear which I am sure the cable has too much slack in it. I can deal with that and fix it. what's really bothering me is that when I push the shifter into 3rd the pivot ball at the base of the shifter handle will pop out and I have to come to a stop and literally unbolt the shifter handle and put it back in. is the salck cable causing this as well?

well if you still have the stock quadrant, which I'll assume you do, did you adjust it in order to tighten the clutch cable after installing the transmission?

If not, it's really simple, all you do is pull up on the cluth pedal (opposite than pressing it in to shift) with your hands until it pops. This disengages the gears on the stock quadrant and then by pressing the clutch back down or pressing it in, it engages the teeth to make the cable tighter.

If there is no pop, chances are the quadrant has been adjusted before like this and the quadrant is stripped where it needs to disengage the gears. You can look under there see the whole shabang with a flashlight and then disengage it another way as well.

Sorry if this didn't pertain or didn't help, but let me know if you have any more questions, and I'll see what I can do

Even if ur clutch isnt adjusted right ur shifter shouldnt do that ! You must be missing that sleeve . That might be causing your problems getting it in gear .

I have a UPR triple hook quad. the cable is on the outermost hook and is still loose. it almost feels like the more I drive the looser it gets. I have an FWA that I am installing over the weekend so that should cure that.

the bushing is in the shift fork, but it is very worn on one side. so I am going by the dealership tomorrow to see if I can pick up another one. if they dont have one I guess I'll have to wait for 5.0resto to ship one to me. thanks for the help guys. I'll let you know how it goes.

dealership does not have one in stock, but they can have it hear on Monday for $8.21
kind of pricey if you ask me, but the dealership is only 15 minutes away from me and it will be faster than 5.0resto.

for anyone that is interested the technical name for the plastic bushing is
Gear Shift Damper Bushing ford part# E3ZZ-7K453-A
