Short block; What else do I need for it

I plan to purchase a short block this summer, but I was looking for some literature to help me finish assembling an engine. I know I'll need cyclinderheads and cams...timing chains... I know im missing more items...

I don't mind buying a good book if someone can point me in the direction or just going off the forums' good word.
