shorty headers difference for sn95?

so another question, some advertise, equal length headers, does this mean all the primaries are the same length, which are the shorties that are hard to change the sparkplugs with on the gt40 heads? unequal or equal length? brands?

I think im going to end up going with FMS shorties

equal lengths are always a bitch to change plugs on. the primaries are the same length and are twisted all sorts of ways to make them go to the collector at the same spot. Im assuming that the equals are gay to switch plugs on when working with GT40 heads. I believe you need different headers when using GT40s though

Dammit, and I'm about to get some equal lengths, oh well... I'll put up with spark plugs, I won't need to change them often.

so can someone tell me which shorty headers wouldn't give me problems with changing my sparkplugs for my 95 cobra? (stock gt40 heads) . I heard the ford ones are good but i wanna know what else so i can see what are my price options.
Look at the pictures -- what you want is a header where the primaries come straight out a few inches or so before beginning the turn down to the collector. Those will be the easiest to install, and the easiest to work around when doing plugs. The ones that come out and immediately turn down make for more clearance to the strut tower, but they're a bitch to work with. I used to have a set of Heddman shorties that were that way -- I had to put all the bolts in simultaneously, turning each one a little at a time (alternating between all the bolts). Such a silly design.

Its not just the gt40 heads. I had edelbrock heads and it was a bit of a pain to change the plugs with the equal lengths. But thats not the worst part. I had no clerance for the spark plug wire boot on one of the passenger side cylinders, I believe it was cyl. #3. I would burn off boots every few days and the damn thing would arc and screw with the firing of the cylinder. Eventually I ended up spending almost $200 bucks on Jacobs ceramic plug wires. These wires have porcelain boots that wont melt up to 2000 degrees. They worked bet man they were crazy expensive. For the money I spent in the end, I could have gotten longtubes the first place (ceramic coated ones) and not had any worries. Dont ever mix MAC equal length shorties and edelbrock heads, I learned that one the hard way. Anyways, if you dont want nightmares like that, heed everyones warnings on the heads and header setup. Go with what these guyz are running and is known to work. Theres so many headers out there and there all made slightly different and same with heads so gets really complicated. Good luck with whatever you choose to get.

:stupid:

I had Hooker SuperComp = length on Windsor Jrs. I got so sick of burning plug wires that I just got longtubes instead of screwing around anymore with the wires.
I'd already had issues with some Jacobs junk or I might've tried the ceramic wires myself. How'd they hold up?

Nope but you have to get the bastards in there.... and buy a different mid pipe... and some of them hang down low. Then there's the 02 sensor problem.... and they cost more.

LOL - there is a give an take in everything.

Maybe unequal shorties interchange with no issue. I'm not sure of that. But LTs & equal shorties have fitment issues around the steering shaft if you put a fox header in a 94/95. I know the equal shorties by experience and the LT info I got from a phone call to Kooks. They use the same pipes for Fox and 94/95 headers. Only on the 94/95 headers, they put an extension in between the flange and the header tube at #7 & #8. And I know that because I have a set here waiting to put on.

Can you make fox headers work? Sure. It's just like everything else...if you've got the know how and the resources, you can make anything work.

What O2 sensor problems have you had with LTs?? It turns out, you can buy a longer harness O2 sensor at Advance/Parts America and it's cheaper than Autozone with a longer warranty. The standard O2 for 94/95 run around $70 each. Look up the sensors with 16-18" harness @ Advance and they're only around $50 each. And that saves you the expense of buying the 'extension harness' or hacking one together.

There is enough extra harness available to extend the O2's without cutting them or buying extensions. You just have to pull them out of the loom.
