Shorty Headers ?

I found Ford Racing Headers model # M-9430- D462 really cheap , The problem is that thay are for 1996-98 mustangs !

But the strange thing is that they look just like headers model# M-9430-E462 that are for 1996-04 !

My ? is will they fit on a 2004 , how can the second pair of headers fit 96-04 but the first pair are for 96-98 , if the second pair fit years 96-04 that should mean that the HEADS are the same as far as fitment goes , right ?

yes, they will fit, but expect 0-1 hp on your car. They gave me nothing NA with PI heads.

dont waste a penny of you money, or a second of your time on shorties,

LONGTUBES!!! or just keep the stock manifolds

Pull the stock manifolds off and have the ported. They will flow way better then shorty headers and if it is done right will flow as well as some long tubes. There is a lot of meat in the stock manifolds and they can be port matched to the head's exhaust port using an exhaust manifold gasket as the template. Plus, no smog ref will ever know.

This Idea is great , I wounder if any 99-04 guys have done this , never heard anybody with this done !

Who makes longtubes for Stangs with an Automatic ?

We did this with my dad's Bullitt but we still havn't installed them. We bough extras off ebay and ported them. The amount they opened up was quite significant. I'm going to do it on my Mach 1 when I finish the exhaust. I've done a cat back so far and when I replace the stock H pipe, I'll do the manifolds at the same time.

This is very interesting, anyone have any #'s from porting them? Long tubes would be cake, but there a little too expensive for a N/A and hang low....

Anyone have an idea on how much this would cost?

Sounds like a very good/cheap alternative for all the money, emissions, scraping, etc. IF they do in fact produce #'s for the price...

If you're going to go to the trouble of removing the stock manifolds, spring for a set of Long Tubes and quit being so cheap. The skinned knuckles and aggravation associated with removing the stockers just to put them back on aren't worth the all of 5hp you’re going to get. Again, don’t touch the stock manifolds unless you're going to replace them with something that'll really breath.

...besides, the stock manifolds flow well enough for most bolt on applications anyway.

I went through this same debate before getting my Ford Racing shorty headers installed. One thing to remember: Emissions testing. If you are using your car for a daily driver, long tubes may give you trouble in this area.

Personally, I was and am happy with the shorties. Everyone said I wouldn't be able to tell a difference, but I definitly can. It tones down the exhaust to a nice rumble too. Of course, I got my install done professionally for free so I have nothing to complain about as far as the cost goes. I think the headers cost about $350 or so for the pair...didn't bother with chrome, just went stainless. So really not all that expensive.
