Should I be worried about my distributor? (pics)

So I've been trying to figure out what the deal is with my car. It just isn't running right and I KNOW it has mechanical issues somewhere in the drivetrain along with some mean vacuum leaks.

BUT about a year ago, I drove through 2 ft of water thinking it was about 6" and it totally flooded the distributor and left it all crusty and lightly corroded. Just amongst the myriad of issues I'm planning to address, should this thing be one of them? It's the MSD billet dist. and I was thinking of dissecting it myself and cleaning it all up.

Also, am I running the right type of gear on it?? Does that wear pattern look normal? It looked fine after having it on the stock cam for 10,000 miles but the new cam seems to be wearing the crap out of it (~100 miles). Or maybe the gear is wearing the cam instead  Don't they have brass or copper gears meant for certain cams?

Inside the once-perfect distributor . . .

Notice the wear pattern on the teeth. Also notice the wear on the oil pump shaft, I thought that was wierd.

Stock roller motor dizzies use a steel gear. Do you have an idea of what your new cam came with for a gear?

The golden hued gears are normally for race applications (too soft for the street. Wait, you know that Mr Engineer).
