if you had to choose between the two for something you'd be driving for the next three years as your only car what would it be

2004 mustang mach 1

or

2004 mustang cobra
http://www.automobilemag.com/reviews/coupes/0206_ford_mustang_svt_cobra/

obviously the cobra makes a ton more power and also has indefinite tuning potential, but mind you i probably wouldnt be doing anything to the engines. i don't know anything about the reliability of a super charger and what eventual wear its going to put the internals of the engine through, while with the mach, the power is N/A. so thinking with the mentality that i'm going to be putting 40k miles on one of these cars in the next 3-4 years, which would you go with that would be less of a headache?

i'd get a white or azure blue mach and a silver or white cobra

personally i'm leading more towards the mach seeing as i'm a bit leery of buying a used car with a supercharger because i really don't know much about them in the long run

hopefully i can gain some insight from this thread and get back into a mustang again already

cn: mach v cobra on reliability

There are few things in this world cooler than an Azure Blue Mach1...

If you plan to keep it stock and keep it long term go with the rarer car, go with the Mach.

even, as i voiced, if my main concern was reliability? the obvious choice in general is the cobra, but i'm not looking for something that is going to blow everything away, i just want to get back in a nice mustang that will be as reliable as my bullitt

I'D prob go with a Mach 1. But then again its a cobra. For me, I would have to see what I would be able to get a better deal on and go with that.

price isn't a factor, it's probably gonna be about an $8k or less difference. i'm leaning more towards the mach, i'm a big fan of it's styling

I'm sorry. I didn't completely read your original post. I too would go with the Mach in your case.

ha that's alright. initially everyone is probably going to say COBRA, and that's undoubtedly what i'd do if i had another car for back up just in case, but seeing as this is going to be my sole car, i want to get something that will last me a few problem free years and it's going to be one of the two

I'd more or less get the Mach just because I'd hate to see the Cobra daily driven to high miles.

Mach 1.

I think it looks better and if it's a DD 99% of the time you are driving it, not racing it.

Both will be reliable, the SC wont be an issue with mileage in my opinion.

It depends on what you want. Both interiors on the cars get an A+++ from me, both exteriors get an A+++ from me. The engine in the Cobra gets an A+++ and the Mach gets an A++...

If you arent looking for speed or to mod, go with whatever is cheaper and that will be the Mach.

If you even THINK you will be modding or have the urge for power get the Cobra. It will also handle a little better than the Mach with the IRS instead of solid axle.

Normally, I'd suggest the Cobra and never give it a second though....but damn if the Mach 1's aren't really starting to grow on me. It's getting to the point now where Cobra's that haven't had the piss driven out of them are getting harder and harder to find. Mach 1's on the other hand tend to get pampered a little more (or at least the ones I've seen have).

I'd have to really sit down and think it over....but for $8,000 premium for the Cobra, I think the Mach 1 would be my choice.

Cobra, hands down. Sorry all you Mach lovers, but I think the Cobra styling > Mach 1

the cobra is one MEAN looking car and it's got the power to back it up, but the mach 1 can be made into an awesome all-motor beast which is really cool too
