Should I move ACT sensor out of lower intake?

I have read about alot of people moving the ACT sensor to the air box. What does this actually do? I'm guessing that the air will be cooler in the air box rather than in the lower intake. My other question is that I don't have an air box so what would my alternative be? I have a Pro-M MAf w/ bolt on air filter. Could I mount it in the intake tube after the MAF?

I think mostly the sn95 supercharger guys do that. However, I can't remember why right now.

Unless you have a reason to move the sensor I would leave it where it is. The computer has all of its fuel and timing tables setup for reading the act in the intake. Moving the act to the intake filter box would just add to the error in signals to the computer. Until you have a tuner to change the curves of the tables in the stock eec-iv, I would just leave things alone.

People with SN95's & superchargers do the opposite - they move the ACT to the lower intake. They do this so the ACT will see the hot air from the supercharger - then they can reprogram the ECU to pull timing at high temperatures to prevent detonation.

If you don't have a supercharger, moving the ACT to the airbox won't do anything since the air temp won't get up to the 150F where the ECU starts to pull timing.

Edit - seeing as the O/P has a supercharger, it is a good idea to leave the ACT in the lower intake so that timing will be pulled when the air get's too hot - this will prevent detonation. You can still adjust static timing & your BTM for optimizing your timing...
