should i stroke it

ok ive been looking at superchargers top end kits but a friend of mine sugested on me stroking the 4.6. now i know nothing about what has to be done to stroke the motor and dont know who to buy a kit from. My friend that suggested stroking the motor builds mopars he has a duster with 600rwhp all motor he wants to stroke the motor for me. he said i just need to get everything and he will do the whole thing for free where can i find a good kit thats worth the price. any help is apprecated

Worth it yes. Might as well. From what I understand a 2v motor is good till about 450hp or so before its going to scatter everywhere (correct me if I'm wrong). So if ur looking at high hp u need to rebuild her anyway go ahead and get the extra cubic inches. Good kits? Look at maxmod or livernois (sp). Ur going to need to get your block prepped cleared and bored but if ur going to do it do it right ya know what I mean

yes you are right about being able to hold 450 hp what else do i have to do to make the car with stand up to 600hp

click on engine components... scroll towards the bottom 1949.99 for their stroker. thats a good 3-500 cheaper than everyone else and its good to 800hp. ill be buying it shortly

Nice. That's quite an interesting 351. I haven't seen many of them and would be different. I actually like MOD motors myself. I drove a 4.6 in a thunderbird in FLA. I liked the sound too.

Rods pistons need to be r2ed. I always figured if your going to do all that I'd swap the crank do some machine work on the block and stroke it. I would be cautious about the 5.1L kit though. On a stock block u r bringing your walls pretty think. If it were me I'd go with a 5L kit some twisted wedge heads and an F1A that should give u all the power u want/ need. A buddy of mine built a forged 4.6 block with an F1A and reworked pi heads pushed 635 hp put a 150 shot on her and ran low 10s

I'll be the nay-sayer in this thread...

The results from building a stroker 4.6 are disappointing unless you are going to do the whole engine (as in porting heads, better cams). Even then, it won't respond in the manner that some other engines do.

The 4.6 already has a long stroke as it is, it's not really ideal to make it even longer.

In my opinion, you are better off to either keep the engine as it is (is there anything wrong with it?) and rebuilding once it's worn out, or else rebuilding it with forged internals to handle future abuse. You can bore it over .020 or .030 just fine most of the time, but mod motors aren't ideal for a large over-bore either.

boring and sleeving the block to 5l is much better than stroking. The dyno below is from a completely stock 4.6 to a big bore 5l with stock top end.
