should teh tires spin?

I have 17" 245's and mine will spin a good 30-40 feet shifting into 2nd if I shift quickly. Engine is stock (car is geared though)... From a roll in 1st, the car will just end up standing there spinning, not really worth it.

Im in Waterbury but ya i got that cam cause at the time i built my engine the car was still SD wanting only to rebuild the car cause the person that had it b4 me ripped it apart then after it took so long to build cause of missing parts i realized shuolda just went all out ha then i converted it to MAF so i coulda got a diff cam

and hey are you still sitting with a busted T-5? i know this guy (Reed's classic 4 speeds) i got a compleatly rebuilt W/C T-5 for $800 i thought that was pretty good

Dave Reed freshened my car up years and years ago after having issues getting it into 2nd at the track. $400 later my tranny has been holding up to abuse and shifts great!

Gears will be your best bet to get the SOTP feel, and the tires spinning.

ha ya that guy knows his stuff but ya i dont want people thinkin im just out tryin to spin the tires on my stang hah i dont beat her up i was just concerned like i said i know they will spin but when im moving they wont chirp even first if i hit it but ya im deff going to look into a H/C/I soon

There are a ton of factors into whether tires spin or not. Stock geared cars, with decent tires and no big power mods ($5 says that cam is hurting you down low) your not going to blow the tires away. I drove my friends 91 GT with 3.73s, intake and exhaust right before we tossed a turbo in it. The car would spin a little in first, a hard powershift to second got a little spin, but nothing to write home about. Rolling in first gear with his 275s out back it didn't spin the tires either.

Now with the hellion kit, first gear as well as second spin pretty good (350/420 to the tire).

the cam i got says GOOD LOW TO MID-RANGE TORQUE AND HP, WORKS W/AUTO OR 4/5 SPD. MANUAL AND STOCK REAR END GEARS (50 STATE LEGAL 85-93, C.A.R.B. E.O. D-225-46) BASIC RPM 1500-5000
is it just that its not good with the stock heads and intake?

Yes you need some kind of head or intake work to take more advantage of it. The stock cam is actually a great piece. We found a way to get 6000 RPM out of one, and still make great tq. My stock cammed car put down 316 rwtq, which is on par with if not more than a lot of HCI cars!

Hellion is a turbo company owned by John Urist. They make a nice kit, at only 9 psi my friend went from 215 or so hp to 349, and from 265 tq to 419. He plans more boost and a few small things, mid 400hp and 500+ tq soon!

my black mustang didn't have any trouble taking off in 5th gear... it would spin for a god-awful amount of time in first (no brake), spin a good 60 feet in second, leave another 20 somewhat feet of rubber in 3rd and chirp 4th.. 4 banger T5 and 3:73 gearing with maybe 250hp at the motor and a stupid idiot driving it.

But spinning the wheels is NOT A SIGN OF POWER. I had crappy tires on my black one, then with the 275's I couldn't spin as much as before...

Also tires make a big difference. I have 285s on mine now, and I had 225s on it before the 5 lug swap. These tires will leave marks through 1st, through 2nd, into 3rd and spin some in 4th, but compared to the 225s, they dont spin as easy. I could be rolling in 2nd with the 225s and anything over half throttle they were gone, with the 285s, they still go, but I have to stand on it. My friens 315 DRs, on his HCI car hook MUCH better than my 285s do!

I've always wondered what they use as a basis when advertising a cam's characteristics. What are they comparing it to, other cams in their line-up? The e-303 is advertised as having excellent low-mid range power. Riiiight. lol

Yeah, it's still sitting. But I bought a gearset from APW. I'm getting a price on having it put together by my dad's friend who owns a tranny shop. If it's more than I want to spend I'm probably going to do it myself this weekend.

There's no way that cam is good for 1500-5000 rpm with those specs. What's the duration at .050? 1500-5000 would be about the advertised range for a stock cam. Those specs look like it wants 6500rpm.

Unless a custom ground, cams on stock motors rarely do any good. I had a B cam in mine, it hurt the car. I have a stocker now and love it.

Well, if your worried about the car being down on power, take it to a dyno and see what it's making. It could be all the factors playing into one.

Get some gears first and foremost, they will wake it right up.

the stock roller cam is a pretty good cam for the E7 heads anyway. No real point in changing cam unless you really want to change the idle sound.
