Shouldn't I be seeing better numbers?

You didn't mention which cam you've got, and tuning is another factor. Kinda hard to say if its a good number without those two things. I hope you're not still running the stock cam....

those are horrible numbers......
something is wrong.

whats your timing? Have you put the car on an a/f meter?

hell, my car made close to that with an explorer motor...whell 280....but still damn.....I think you have some issues.

In your sig you use the words ............

"not the internet standard"

I see SAE

Please elaborate :)

Here is a rule of thumb or ball park kinda thing for you :D

When talkin NA and a STREET combo ..........

You usually can get 1 rwhp for every cube you got

This would be a pretty mild combo :)
and
it would have pretty close to stock like drivability with a sharp tune ;)

Final 5-O,

Good catch that is called too many beers when posting. I meant DIN, and must have been thinking about the Internet. Hey, I never claimed to be smart, LOL.

Grady,

Just talked to the engine builder, and he confirmed that the tuner did have it tamely tuned at 10 deg. And, I am not sure what the tuner had set up for timing at higher RPM's. So that is probably the major issue with the HP that I am seeing. He also said that he figured out the problem I was having with the "shift retard". The tuner didn't adjust the idle on the TB right. He said he fixed that. The only thing remaining on the drivability issues now is the dying at idle when cold and hard starts cold. He is still saying that he expects we can get 330-340 RWHP out of it. That still seems low to me, but considering I probably only had 185 at the rear wheels stock, that is still a big difference. I just need the builder and the tuner to get on the same page is what it sounds like to me. He said that it wasn't a real beefy cam that he put in because I wanted it to be a daily driver. Of course, he still hasn't provided me with any numbers, :(

Greg

All the others who suspect the cam
may be at the heart of the lower than expected results

I confess to using a hired gun to
kill my dreaded cam combo decisions :rlaugh:

As for the issues such as
idle
tip in retard
and other drivability issues

They should not make a diff with a 4th gear skinny pedal down full condition such as a dyno pull :nono:

I've found you can go to a pretty stout cam
and
Tune the combo for near stock like drivability
and
Pass strict emissions testing

Another thing I've found from working with my combo

I firmly believe I could go more aggressive cam-wise :bang:
and still
Achieve the same benefits with yet more performance

You really can do some phenomenal things
if you're willing to work with the tune ;)

I do think you should let your guys see what they can do with what you now got before you make a move to different combo parts :nice:

Hey Greg ... can you post up the dyno pull :D

Who else besides me was waiting for Grady to ask this?

Greg, while you are at it, please post up the raw numbers so that Grady can plug them into excel. This will prevent him from resurrecting this thread a month down the road asking for numbers....:D

Yeah you need to find out what kind of cam he put in that thing. Your Heads are stout. Track heat intake is a good one. Must be the cam. And or the tune.

Having a 10 degree base timing is fine as long as he uses the computer to advance the timing when your at WOT. Spark retard wont effect you on the dyno.
