Sick of all the mufflers out there

If you want to change the sound of your car, just mufflers isn't going to do the job. All mufflers do is muffle the sound, they might make it deeper, higher, louder, quieter, to a point, but the reality is the exaust is making the same sound. So what you need to do to get a different sound is a different mid-pipe, and headers make a big difference, and a cam would really change it. I had regular delta-flow 2 chamber flows and when I swapped to longtubes and an off road H pipe, really made a difference. Just changing mufflers I don't think you will be satisfied. Maby a little, but in no-time you'll be bored with it again, promise. It will still sound like a typical five-oh with a catback. I have heard dynomaxes on cars with full exaust and cams, and I think they sound really wicked. Dynomaxes are really good at bringing out the true sound of the engine. It's your engine that needs the change.

You could always go with SLP, that has a completely different sound from any other Mustang exhaust out there.

I had the Hooker Aero Chambers on my 95 with an off road H and it really sounded good. Different than the Flowmaster for sure. The in-car sound was really awesome!! Just sounded clean, and didnt drone like the flo's do.

I agree and disagree on this one. The engine does have a HUGE deciding factor on exhaust note, since obviously it is what's making the sound...BUT to say that mufflers have little effect is a bit false....that's like saying all woodwind musical instruments make the same sound because of the human that blows into it....make sense?

I believe each of the 3 main parts of a Mustang's exhaust contributes it's own touch to the exhaust note....because i've tried and had just about every concievable variation possible. Every style of header, every style of mid pipe, and more catbacks than i can remember. If you wanna sound different, you're gonna have to experiment. H pipes usually tend to provide a more rumbling and deeper tone than an X, which usually gives a raspy rippy kind of sound. The muffler then plays off of this. Take for example, Flowmaster 3 chambers vs. Dynomax Race Bullets....there's NO way you can say they sound anything like the same muffler, or even engine/car for that matter.

Like i said though, i do agree that engine configuration does have a big effect. I've got a friend who had the exact same exhaust as i did, from header back, but his engine is a 347 where mine is a mostly stock 302. His was both much louder and much raspier/rippy than mine sounded. I actually know another guy who had the same setup on a blown 408...THAT was a whole different beast.

Right now i'm running MAC full lengths, a Dr. Gas X pipe, and 1 chamber Flowmasters....my car doesnt sound like your typical Flowmaster exhaust because of the X pipe (which sounds different than other X's that i've run, like MAC and BBK). The mufflers are typical 2 chamber Flows with the back chamber removed. That's how you get a different sound...you get creative.

Try taking the exhaust off for a day and driving it around....

Youll appreciate the sound of any muffler then,lol.

I have the same setup but with BBK shorty headers and i love the way it sounds.

It doesnt have that generic mustang with flowmasters sound.

i've also heard good things for the flow tech afterburners....
