I bought my car new, and in about 2 months the side vent louvers became very chipped up. I took it in and they re-pained them under warranty. Now they are doing it again. Saleen is saying that it is do to rock chips and not warrantable. My argument is I have never seen a regular GT or Cobra with stock Ford paint chip there like mine are, and it is a Saleen issue. As a matter of fact, every chip I have on my car is a Saleen part, not one on Ford paint. At this point it is worthless to continue to plead my case with them, as they are not going for it. I am going to have to have them repainted on my dime.

Anyone with a '99 -'04 have paint/rock chip issues with the side louvers?

I would say the first paint job was "Saleen's fault".

After getting it repainted, IMHO it would be the "Shop's fault", and they should pick up the tab for not doing a great paint job for you.

I feel your pain.

The black sections in the fins get pitted fast. I only had a few thousand miles on my 02 before they started pitting. My 00 Speedster also is pitting in there dammit. Are you actually having problems with the color or the black paint on the insides? It's too bad those things are not functional because they catch a lot of air.
If you are having problems with the paint on all of the Saleen parts maybe the painter had a bad day or forgot something, but I also agree with Mike. If you already had them painted once and it's happening again. go back to them and have them make it right.
Post a pic so we can tell you if what you are seeing is normal, as crappy is it may be or not. You know all Saleen Mustangs get fisher-price paint jobs done in the back at Babies R' Us right? :D

Oh yea, you are up there outside Seattle. I don't know of any sand blown, desert roads up there like we have down here. Do you drive anywhere on a regular basis thats marginal?

Hmmm yep, bumper, hood, and skirts, but then she is a daily driver! What some guys do is that they will run like a strip of tape down the louvers to protect them from chippin. Or 3M makes like clear Bra that works wonders and looks fantastic!!!!! Bit pricey though!!! :nice:

I have the same problem with my skirts and vents chipping. The reason, as explained by by local body shop, is due to the fact that Saleen puts larger (wider) wheels on the car than that of the GT's and Cobras. Once the wheel extends even a little out of the wheel well, there is nothing to stop rocks from flying out and back and hitting the skirts and vents. As I see it, it's not really anyones fault except for Saleens bad planning when accomodating larger/wider wheels.
The solution, as mentioned above, is to get the 3M vinyle applied on the vents and skirts. My local shop quoted me $350 to do my front bumper, skirts, and vents. It's definitely worth it because my car looks terrible with those chips, especially with the darker paint job.
