Slight vibration in steering

Hello all,

I purchased my Mustang in October 2004 and drove it for about a month
before storing it for Winter. Took it out of storage today and it seems like there is a slight vibration in the steering wheel.

Any chance that this is simply because the car has been sitting for the last five months and that it will go away after I drive it some more, or might it be something else.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

If it happens only when you are pressing the brakes it is a warped rotor. If it happens all the time, there is a good chance your tires got flat spots from sitting with pressure too low. The tires could also be defctive or worn out. There are other things it could be as well such as suspension/steering component problems but I would start with the tires if it is not the rotors.

nope... my car's steering wheel vibrates as you described as well... and mines been out all day playing around for 3 years

Does it do it only when braking?

Do you have old tires?

The tires still have at least 60% thread on them. I don't remember this problem being there before storing the car.....maybe I just wasn't paying close attention.

The problem is not as much when I'm braking as it is when I am just driving along.

I started doing some research on the Internet on flat spots. Basically there is two types: Temporary and Permanent.

Temporary will give you vibration no matter what speed your driving at and usually go away after about 100 miles of driving.

Permanent will only give you vibration at a certain speed....example between 70 to 80 mph and they will not go away and basically ruin your tire.


Good news is that I get vibration no matter what speed I'm travelling at so if it is flat spots, they should go away......Here's hoping!!!!!

definitely no flat spots on my tires... around 1000 miles on them ... and no burnouts or major drifts yet

lol just do a burnout to make the tire round again. then rotate your tires and do another burnout. you now have four round tires again. lol
