Ok here the deal. Today we got a 97 gt 5-speed, autumn orange,104k from and auction. Best part about it is we got it for 3k! :nice: Clutch is awsome and the thing is f##kin fast. I dont think it is stock, to fast to be, but I don't know if anything is done to it because we got it at the auction. But anyways heres the deal. It takes the rpms a good 5 or 10 sec. to drop down to 1k. Isn't 1k to high to idle at. I was just wondering if this could be a vacuum leak or somthing or could it possibly have a cam and not been tuned for it. I am new to the performance side of the 4.6 so any info on the motor/car would be great. Thanx,Wes P.S. This is my girlfriends screen name :D

what do you mean it takes a good 5-10 seconds to drop to idle? is this after you romp on it or after you start it up or what?
Yes, your idle should be at around 650-750. After you car warms up see what the idle is. If you want to look for any vacuum leaks hold a lit cigarette around the engine bay. If the smoke goes to one area, you have a leak.
About your cams. More than likely if it does not have a mild to mediocre lope you probably have stock cams.

oh, get a tune up. flush the tranny fluid, flush radiator fluid, engine oil, and switch plugs.

you'll definitely know if you have aftermarket cams. so it will never go below 1000rpm correct? First off, try going to autozone if there were any codes thrown in the first place. Record those codes and post them back up here. If there are no codes, try resetting the computer disconnecting the negative terminal on your battery for 10minutes and reconnecting it. Let the car idle for 5 minutes with the a/c off. Then another 5minutes with the a/c on. See if that helps.

if that doesn't help. Try to buy a new IAC at a local autopart store that carries motorcraft parts. Ford charges a grip so might want to make that your last resort (paparoach:D).

Do the copper cap mod and that will fix the problem. RPM's drop nicely after that.

LOL, Hey on that copper cap, do you put it between the air intake and the black box, or the black box and actual aluminum intake? Oh, I think it might have cams,do the stock cams run real smooth or do they have a slight lope to them, because we were sittin in the line at DQ and at 1k it had a rough idle, not like a big ol lope but i think if it were at the stock idle it would have an even rougher idle. Thanx,Wes

Between the black box and the plenum. Make sure you put it in backwards or you will have a hard time trying to take it out. I can take a picture and post it if your still not sure.

Hey, I did it today and it worked but I could tell a difference in the power the car had so i took it out.
??you lost HP??

I don't see how you would lose HP. I mean, for you to be able to notice it, you would have had to lose at least 10 - 20 hp. I could be way off, but that just doesn't sound right. Hmmmm..... time for a new thread.
