slow track times?

Took my GT to the track for the first time in my 3 years of owning it. I made 4 passes, the first of which was actually my best run (except for the fact that I hit the brakes at the 1/8 mile instead of the 1/4 mile...). Best times and mods are listed in my sig. I'm running stock gears, and it has never been tuned (no chip, no programmer, no dyno).

Do they seem slower than they should be? I was hoping for high 13's. I guess I just need more practice, but looking back on them I don't see anything I messed up. I hooked up well (on the 2 good runs), didn't bog down, shifted quick and clean... it was about 65 degrees outside, not too humid (relative to Louisiana weather). I'll be headed back on the next Test n tune night to see if I can improve.

Was my first time at the strip... in any car... ever.

Its probaly the fact its your first time. I went home disapointed my first time (see sig for ET), but I know if I go back again I will do much better.

What RPM were you shifting at?

Also, the 18's could be slowing you down a little bit, more rotational mass.

Meh, not killin my times :D *check sig*

Our cars run a 14.0-14.1 professionally driven (stock) so of course you should be running high 13's with your mods.

My time in my sig is what i ran at the track, and that was my 1st time to the track EVER. The time in sig was my 3rd and final run.

So I think there is lots of room for improvement for both of us

You're just mad because you drive an automatic...Pansy

LOL....

You just need some practice and you will get the times down. I remember when I first had my fox it took me a while to learn how to launch it and stuff and I think this GT is the first car I could actually launch at the track well....so 4+ years of driving experience def. helps out :nice: practice practice practice!

I see so many running mid 14's. Biggest problem is your shift points...and hitting the brakes at 1/8. :D

My car is probably putting the same to the wheels as yours...maybe a little better but with your MPH you should be low 14's to high 13's. I made some high 13 passes with your MPH pretty regularly. Your 60' could be better also. I have cut consistent 2.0 sixties on street tires so some work in your launch is needed too. How are you leaving the line?

My cars peak on the dyno was 5300 so you would generally shift at 500 above your peak HP so that you will be in the sweet spot of the power band in the next gear. Try shifting at 5300 one run then 5400 and so on until you see your times drop.

Were you at No Problem last TnT? A few people in our club were out there and they said there was quite a head wind also. If you want check my sig and sign up on our club site.

PS...Nice avatar...:nice:

hahahahaha:lol:

yea it takes practice heck i finally got into the 8s in the 1/8th with my car after i did the gears. Ive been to the track a good 10 times. Just keep practicing your times will drop. And some gears would probably help seeing how you just have full exhaust.

I dont have headers yet but I have a worse 60' than you and i ran 8.9 in the 1/8th at 78.8 and i dropped from consistent 9.2s and now im consistent 8.9s on a 2.2 60. So that gives you an indication of how much the gears helped me get off the line even though i still spin a lot. I spun all teh way down the track through the first 3 gears:nonono: (had to drop the tire pressure to 20psi and still didnt have a whole lot of grip but it was better.)

Oh yea...tire pressure. Stock pressure isn't condusive to good sixties. Try dropping it to 20 like stated above. NPR has an air hose at the back of the tech shack so that you can add it back before you leave.

yea especially when its 30 degrees outside. The day i ran my 8.9s the first run down the track was a 10.xx hahahaha my 60 was a 2.8 and when i shifted early to 2nd and punched it it spun to the limiter.:nonono:
