Has anyone heard of Smending Performance? In the new Mustang Monthly they have in the "new bits" section a 405 hp and 420 lb-ft of torque GT347 Extreme stroker listed at $5,495, which includes a brand new sportsman block, RPM Air Gap intake etc......

Just wondering if anyone has used them seems to be a pretty reasonable price considering long block prices at places like DSS and CHP.

Paid $4200 for my CHP Street Fighter 347 with AFR 185 heads. Granted it didn't come with the intake or oil pan or timing cover, these can be had for ~$500. CHP has a known reputation also, which was the main deciding factor for my purchase since many builders are in the same price range.

I just re-read thatit has a SPORTSMAN block, most of these other companies(mine included) use a stock block.

Yes, that does make a difference, however Smeding comes with Edelbrock heads, so when you actually start comparing some of the components, it's pretty much a wash. Also, they rate their engine at 380 hp and just under 400 lbs tourque. I'm sure it's a great engine, just need to look at all the components included in the price to determine the value compared to other comparable builders.

Smeding

The Mustang Shop in AZ is a dealer for Smeding and they told me that Smeding is a very good company. He also suggested a 351 from them. It is not on their web site, however it uses the same parts as the 347 extreme except a 351 block. It also sells for ~$1000 dollars less. Just a thought.

Jcode68, I was orginally planning on going the route you went and just reusing my intake and other accessories, but that set up from Smeding just peeked my interest it's not a bad price for what you get. By the way what type of numbers do you excpect from the CHP you have.
