Smells like smoke after egr bypass.........

I deleted my heatercore pipes and coolant lines that run through to the egr spacer like 3 weeks ago because of coolant leaks that i had .Since then there has been no leaks at all and everything is perfect. But i noticed that when i hit the pedal hard lately it smells like smoke in the engine bay. Also i haven't plugged the 2 pipes that stick out of both sides of the egr spacer.I went to get the plugs the other day at autozone but they didn't have them. Should i plug them,and why does it smell like smoke when i really run the car hard? Is this normal?

Yea I would definately plug those holes. Heck, use RTV if you really need something to plug it temporarily.

My real concern is how do you know what the engine bay smells like, if you're in the passenger compartment driving?

I can smeel some of it while i'm idleing,plus when i got home last night i got by the bumper and smelled in front of it and it smelled like that.Is that smell coming from the egr pipes?
