Just a few questions.

Am I better off just getting a smog pump delete kit rather than replacing the smog pump, and do I have to get the cats remove also?

If I do just get the delete kit, should I also pull all of the pollution control stuff from my '94 GT?

Finally, does any know of a shop that will pull the cats in the central florida area.. no questions asked?

Hey man... I personally went the cheap way out. I took my smog pump apart, removed the veins and now I have a homemade smog pump eliminator kit. It didn't take long.... and it was free. The damn thing was locked up anyway. Why not take it apart.... see what make it tick and if you break it, WHO CARES. Its scrap anyway!!!

It spins super free and I can't see an eliminator kit being any smoother.

When it died... It was cold and I didn't have a second car at the time. I went to the store and bought a shorter serpentine belt and called it a day.

Good luck man!! Hope that this helps.

Thoughts:

1. ONLY DELETE THE PUMP IF YOU HAVE NO CATS. You can't delete the pump and keep your cats. You WILL clog them. You do not want to do this.

2. Deleting the cats is a great idea if you live in a non-emissions area. Deleting the cats and the pump at the same time will free up a very noticeable amount of horsepower.

3. If you want to go catless and pumpless, just remove the pump and run a short belt. This is the cheapest and easiest option. Run a shorter drive belt and pull the pump out.

Basically, you could buy a cheap off-road H-pipe from Summit (around $100) and a belt from Autozone or wherever ($20). Bolt-on the new catless H-pipe, rip off the smog pump and all of the smog lines, and install the new shorter belt.

I have a complete smog pump assembly, I just removed from my 1995 Cobra that I was going to list on Ebay on sunday. If interested PM me and I'll send you some photo's. The car only has 30,961 miles on it. It was all in good working order when I removed it about a month ago. Plus, I'll sell it cheaper that a Smog delete kit and your car will continue to pass the emissions test. Let me know.

I know everyone says your cats will clog, but i didnt have the money and bypassed my smog for a long time and did not have any problems with it. I have an o/r X on there now.

It seems as though a few (or more) of the aftermarket cat folks say their cats dont need additional air injection. For stock cats, I think I would keep the A.I.R. pump functional if possible.
That said, you can see that folks like Mricci didnt have issues.................

To address the other questions a little bit - we assume you dont have emissions testing since you want to ditch other comonents........ Correct?

Think of some of them as separate and if you dont need to remove something, I wouldnt really. Research items like EGR since it can affect driveability if removed without tuning, etc.

Shawn has a nice idea with the O/R pipe. I just picked one up and it's a good lookin piece for the cash.

Good luck.

Yes, I live in the great Smog State of Florida... Central Florida actually.

Your responses does raise another question.

1. Are there aftermarket cats that do not require the additional air flow from the smog pump for our 94 -95 stangs?

Depending upon your answers, I will either go with off road X/H pipes or run it with a short belt.

Jim, I think it's best to ask the manufacturer you want to go with. Most of us dont have any actual experimental data to back-up why we think what we do, but they will. Plus with warranty concerns, what they say is what should go.

Be warned that a smog pump that isnt used (bypassed) is prone to seizure (esp in your humid climate).

Good luck.

Not driving the car is what I think led to the smog pump problem.. My stang is a weekend driver (occasionally), and soon will be my project car, now that I have some spare cash flow to bury in this car.
