smog pump delete

what happends if you dont plug the holes in the back of the heads when you take the smog pump out? thanks

You will have a bad exhaust leak. Air from the smog pump enters the heads through those holes and eventually into the exhaust ports to provide oxygen to burn unburned fuel leftover from the combustion process.

so what can i use to plug the holes with?

i've heard of guys using old broken off spark plugs, that's what i'll probly try when i throw my tw's on. can someone confirm this is ok?

If you still have the tube that went across to the two heads. Cut both ends off and flip them side to side and install with the hole face out. Use new gaskets.

Use 9/16 coarse thread 1" bolt lathered in loc-tite.

The easiest way I have seen is to leave the cross over tube on the heads then plug the on opening with i small plug of sort and a piece of heater hose

Most speed shops can get you a special plug that is actually threaded on the inside so that you can use the hole for something.....like an extra ground strap. I don't know how else to describe the plugs...they are common.

Ford has them as well. Just ask for the inserts, they will know what you are talking about.
