Smoked the clutch

I was at a car show last weekend (I won 3rd place and a trophy for longest distance traveled 1330 km) and attempted a 2nd gear burnout for the burnout contest. Well the only thing that burnt was my clutch. :damnit: The first attempt I forgot to turn off the traction lock, but on the 2nd attempt I turned it off and I thought I was smelling rubber till smoke started coming into the car from around the console. I was told that under certain conditions the traction lock will come back on all by it's lonesome. The car still drives fine, shifts good and all but I'm sure I took a lot of life off that clutch. My questions are: how to properly do a burnout with the 05 and all of its hi-tech features? how do I keep the traction lock from coming on by itself? and has anyone seen any good quality aftermarket clutch, pressure plate, throw out bearing, and flywheel for the 05. I imagine it's best to go ahead and replace it now than later.

just because smoke came through the console does not mean you smoked the clutch, If you had the back tires going very good at all there should have been smoke pouring into the cabin from every possible opening.

I burned mine up with heel/toe burnouts. Well, atleast 6 burnouts a night, 2 nights a week since December (at the track). I installed line locks and put in a RAM clutch. I love it. Makes the burnouts very easy. Just step on the brake pedal, push a button, let the brake pedal go, put her in 3rd gear and pop the clutch at about 5000 rpm's.

Yeah, I dobt you smoked the cluth with just a second gear burnout. Some comes in from every where. You would have smeeled a totally different smell if it was the clutch. Its a vey disticnt smell, not like rubber. McCleod has a nice clutch kit. My buddies at MD motorsports are having a write up on this install in the next issue of 5.0.

smoked clutch smells like bad brakes. i tried a 2nd gear power brake in mine too, and it did the same thing. the rpms were at 5000, and slowly dropped. the tires never moved, then came the cloud out from under the car....no matter what it would not power brake in 2nd. then it shifted funnny for a few days....

I would have went with a Mcleod, but they didn't have one ready for this car yet. If you smoked the clutch, it'll smell in your car for awhile after doing so.
It smelled inside the car for about an hour and you could smell it under the hood. I'm going to look into getting a new tune that will shut the darn thing off for good.

You deffinetly burnt the clutch...Your not alone...I know of a few others that have tried.....The 05's won't burn from second without a reflash.....
Bigcats right...clutch smells just like burnt brakes...both being asbestos or some other heat resistant material.

Just cut the life span a little though.
