Hi i have a 2002 gt 4.6L and currently its smoking when idling or any type of gas while driving even. Ive been told its my valve seals could be a cylinder i dont know what it could be? Note the motor is most likely the original from years ago so just to throw that out there. Ive done new ac compressor, motorcraft ignition coils, sparkplugs, iac restrictor plate, and recently a new water pump. On the exhaust tips theres like a residue on the tips looks like oil but im told could be carbon build ups. But it has gotten worse hopefully the people on here can help me figure out this problem!

what color is the smoke? blue vs black? blue-ish looking at oil. could be valve seats, could be piston rings, pcv, etc etc. Black smoke and smells like you have no cat's on your car? check plug gap, O2 sensors, check resistance on coil packs (especially if not using motorcraft or Denso)

Still been stuck with this problem ive been told due to it being white smoke it could be my pistons and for that i get a whole new motor but a majority of the 2v 4.6 community says its likely valve seals

That's because putting in a junkyard motor is less labor and time than pulling the heads and sending them out for new valve seats. And that's if it is valve seats and nort piston rings. Get a compression tester from harbor freight if you want to find out if your rings are bad. Or valve seals. Or any list of things. Or price out a known no issue running engine and realize it can be done rather easily...
