Does anyone here own one of these rare Saleens? Has anyone seen one for sale recently? I haven't heard anything about these for such a long time. Any leads on where to find one and/or info on your experiences with one would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I've a couple out here in CA at the Saleen show a few years ago. Supposedly they belonged to a father and son race team. Only one of them had plates. I don't think you'll find one that's street legal as I don't believe they were ever ment to be street legal.

There used to be a guy who I went to Jr. college with who had a red one. Not sure which year, but it had the 96-98 tails, so it was one of those years. It was also supercharged.

Tim Allen's old race car is NOT a widebody if that's the one you're thinking about.

Thanks for the replies. I contacted Mark from Performance Autosport. He said there were only 3 Wide-body street models produced, and only one was a pre-'99 car. This confused me, for I remember seeing a black one in Saleen's '98 catalog with a wing similar to one found on the S281, and one multi-prismatic car with a rediculously tall race wing in magazines and at various events. But apparently this was only one car; Saleen changed the paint scheme and showed the car in its mystic form. Any 96-98 car seen must have had just a body kit, for I know Saleen sold them at one time; the street cars never hit production due to their inability to pass NTSA regulations. Mark was very knowledgable, so thanks to mark95-0051 for the lead. I did see the normal-bodied racer on their website. I wonder the whereabouts of this SR; if anyone has any more info, please keep me posted.

Here's one image of the car.....This is the only widebody SR that Saleen made pre-99. It was all over the globe for display and was retired to the show room at Saleen Inc before they moved from Whatney to Fairbanks. This car never had an engine or drivetrain in it.
It was just sold within the last six months. Not sure where it went, but I was talking to Liz just recently and happened to ask her about the car.

Here's the image of one of the only two 99 SR Widebody's....

Thanks for the info, Robert. What would this car be worth, both as a roller and a complete car, in your opinion? Also, has anyone viewed this car closely enough to evaluate its quality in terms of fit and finish?

Well, I know what it sold for as a roller. Would I have paid the same amount.....YES. I have connections that could have gotten a completely stock engine and drivetrain for that car rather easily. Remember, it is 1 of 1 period. Not one of its kind with its color and options. Literally, the only 1 of that model every made.

It was on display for a few years in the old show room and you could view it from inches away. The fit and finish was excellent. All ready to go minus the power. Locating it wouldn't be that difficult, a simply phone call. However, I wouldn't even bother unless you have cash in hand, ready to purchase. You would be better off dropping $45,000 for the yellow SR that is on PAS or better yet, drop $60,000 for the same car only white in WA. (The SR that was just on ebay).

Somewhere packed away, I do have pictures of it from the showroom. I would just need to scan them before I posted them......

I breathed heavily on that car many times when it was on Whatney.

O.T. I just read tonight that Mercedes has plans for that building now.
