I've got a friend in England who wants to modify his AC-Ace, a British sports car powered by a 94/95 era 5.0L/5 speed. At this point he simply wants to upgrade the exhaust, the throttle body, the intake manifold and the heads. He's planning on a set of 1 5/8ths shorties and downstream exhaust upgrades, a 65mm throttle body, a trickflow upper and lower, and a set of AFR165's. He has EXTREME emissions/inspection issues over there - so he wants to keep mods relatively conservative so that he won't have any problems in that area. For now, he's planning on sticking with the stock 70mm maf and 19# injectors, although he may have to upgrade the fuel pump. Cam will also remain stock.

His question is this - will the 94/95 ecu tolerate those changes ok? He's heard that he'll need a chip or twEECer even with those relatively mild changes, and I simply don't know enough about the 94/95 ecu to coach him. So, you guys get to educate me. Shouldn't he be able to bolt those on and see a pretty significant power/torque increase across the board, without any drivability issues?

Michael, from what i have read (my thoughts and 8 bucks will get you a cup of coffee at the boutique coffee house :) ), the SN guys have issues with their puters in stock applications (pinging is a real issue with them - why many run locked out timing). some of the guys retrofit our A9 puters into their cars for that reason.

i bet posting over on that side would reveal more info (knowing you, you did). JR, John and some of the guys on that side are very conversant with all that TwEECer stuff and what will need it and what wont.

my take: he can do the mods and if it runs like poo, get a chip or TwEECer at that point.

i personally dont see where issues would come up with those mods, but then again, i dont have an SN.
i had nothing good to post but thought i would toss out my two cents and give ya a bump.
good luck to your friend. :)

94 Mustang GT 5 Spd. Heads/cam/intake (trickflow kit), Pro-M 80mm, 24lb inje. 3.73. Full exhaust.
All this on the stock computer... No idle issues.

At first it did have a rough idle, but I unplugged the battery and let it sit for the night. And when i woke up in the morning the computer cleared itself and made new tables for my new parts.
