SN95 weight watchers

looking to shed a few pounds for a race because the theme is N/A mustang street cars with valid insurance/registration/driven to track/DOT tires.

Normal race weight for me is about 3520 lbs w/driver. That's half tank of gas to start, lighter rims in back, no spare.

Tires will be M/T ET Streets on 15x7 rims (DOT legal)

Removing passenger and rear seats

Removing the stock speaker box/speakers in trunk

Pulling my stereo head unit.

Considered removing rear sway bar

Not sure on front sway bar, unsure on how it will drive if i do that

Don't have strut tower brace installed, can't clear intake w/1" spacer.

any other suggestions

I moved my battery to the trunk.

You can also run a short belt to bypass the A/C and smog if you still have them.

It depends on how serious you want to be with it.


How about a dry cell (lightweight) battery, while you're at it?
Did you get the dogbone off the rear diff?
Aluminum driveshaft?
Remove sound deadening material in the doors (?) and rear quater panel area.
Remove spoiler. (Less than 10# but, hey.)


I was at National Trails (Columbus, Oh) when they pulled a late 60's 500cid Cadillac up and blasted out a nice "mid/high 15 second" pass. (Don't remember the exact #) Then they went and took all the sound deadener, extra seats, spare tire and such and crept up on a 14 second pass. Then they took the doors, trunklid, hood, lights, glass and stuff off and were in the mid 13's. They got one pass with the roof cut off, fenders and most of the rear quarter panels removed. As I recall, it netted a solid 12 second pass, but it required slicks/skinny's to get the job done.

I think one of the car magazines was involved in it. It was in the early 80's.

I'm sure you don't want to go THAT far with your lil Stang. ;)

i did take the dogbone off the rear diff and i have an aluminum driveshaft

my main question is sway bar removal both front and rear
 
you'll definitely notice a front swaybar removal...

if you leave the hole it is even lighter. I personally made my own rear seat delete and left the bottom cushion in the car. It weighs only a couple pounds and my 6'6 friends can still ride in the back. Doing half a rear seat delete gives the back seat passengers 3-4 inches more much needed leg room.

10- empty your windshield wiper fluid reservoir. it is not heavy enough to warrant removal. it weighs a pound. I converted my reservoir to work as a catch can for my radiator and eliminated the overflow tank and brackets. This was worth at least 5 pound savings

??- Miscelaneous brackets - there are several brackets that are a pound or less all over the car./ you will find you dont need these. I just remove as I find them.

Wallet mods:

tubular K stock is 58 an aftremarket will weigh 18-26 pound
A arms stock are 26 pounds together after market will weigh about 10-12
aluminum heads expect 48+ pounds weight savings
Drive shaft- stock is 22 FRPP is 12. this is also rotational mass, so small power gains can be seen.
Coilovers- stock springs are 9 a piece while coilovers are 5-6
Prostars- will also reduce rotational mass
