I know a local kid around here, that just graduated high school, when he turned 16 his dad bought him a 99cobra, and i saw him today and tried talking to him, but i basically got a, yeah whatever. He is spoiled, daddy pays for tires,gas, insurance, and body work when he hit somebody. Funny thing is he cant drive it worth a crap. He just put "Nawzzz" in it to compinsate for his shatty driving. I mean, whats with snobby mustang owners, wish we could all just get along.

couldnt agree more, when the 03 cobra first came out, i read in my local newspaper that a 16 yr old kid went off the cliff in mt. baldy, by my house, he only had the car 3 days before he decided to go off-roading, sadly, he didnt survive. His dad bought it for him brand spankin new.

Some parents have more money than brains, i was gunna buy a T/A 6-speed LS1 for about $6800 back before i bought my car. My dad said no way - guess i'm glad he did

Yea, my first car was a POS '89 Camaro RS with a 2.8. Slow as hell, but it had racing stripes. Reminds me of the scene in "Transformers." "Oh, this one has racing stripes..." It was slow but I still drove it like an idiot. It's a good thing I didn't have my GT back then...
My first car when I was 16 was my 1988 5.0.
This was in 1998. It was 10 years old with 53K miles on it owned by a 60-year old woman (seriously)

There are a lot of mustang owners out there that give the rest of us bad names. I mean i don't think 16, 17 or even 18 year olds should have a gt or cobra period. I got mine when i was 19 and that was after i had been in the military for over a year and had already been on 1 deployment, so i was a little more responsible than your normal kid. They just don't know how to act behind the wheel of a car yet.

although being one year older and serving in the military can change you into thinking your more responsible that's great (and it probably does!).. doesnt mean there arent other young people ,17-18, who shouldnt have the car... I just turned 18 and i respect my car for anything and everything it's worth... Just kinda got irritated at the fact you made a general statement about younger people having a gt. There are some people that dont need them YES. We can be responsible and mature about it... Majority no. But thanks for serving.

It was 1998, i was 16 in HS and bought my 10-year old (at the time) 5.0 with my own money. That would be the equivalent of a 16-year old buying a 1998 GT or Cobra today...even a 1999 model might be close.
I didn't drive stupid, and back then there weren't 400HP vehicles all on the road...so a 225HP 5.0 was still a fast car for that time.

exactly. own money... that's where people look at 16-18 year olds and say oh look mommy and daddy bought them a nice car they dont deserve. Well all i can say is im 100% earning and paying for my car with my own money. That's where responsibility comes into play when you're dealing with your own stuff that you worked hard for. You respect it so much more.
I wouldnt say you ran into a snobby mustang owner but rather a spoiled little bratt kid. but i have run into a few 05+ guys that kinda talked down to me because i have a 2v and they made sure to point out the fact that they have more hp witch isnt the case anymore since i installed the vortech.

I had plenty of people who thought my parents bought me my car. Beleive me it's worse when people think they did and they didn't and they dont beleive me.
I know exactly what thats like. I still get people from time to time telling my my "dads" car looks good. I pisses me off when people think that just because someone is young means that they can't possibly make good money. I compaired jobs with one guy and he STFU when I showed him that i made almose twice as much as he did a hour. it actaully felt good to prove someone wrong.

I bought my GT at 16 or so, had saved up for about 4 years before hand. I did fine, did some stupid stuff - learned from it. Got comments about whether it was mine or not, made me feel good to say i bought it, but now that i'm 21 and in a college town people don't ask, or even care, everyone's driving a M3, SL, Audi, or Range Rover.
I know how that is.
I went to college and every European student on a Visa had a brand new M3 convertible or SL500.
I stopped looking at car makes as a way to judge people. I know plenty of people my age who work ONLY for their cars. They are 25, have a nice M3 convertible and live paycheck to paycheck renting an apartment with $1000 in savings.
I'd rather go home to my nice condo in my Mustang than drive my M3 back to my parents house if you know what i mean.
