Should not be as the pickup for the oil pump is on the rear of the pan.

Check the output of the coil first by unplugging the coil wire off the dizzy cap, put screw driver into plug end, lay screw driver next to a good ground (use a strut mount bolt), roll motor over and look for spark. Next, roll motor over until on TDC and check where the rotor in the dizzy is pointing. Should be on the #1 cylinder post on the dizzy cap. What firing order did you use?

As long as the tank isn't extremely low and fuel is still in the stock sump nope.. I've parked on driveways with more slope then that.

Sometimes that helps bleed the cooling system with the cap off.....

Just drill a 1/8" hole in the top part of the thermostat and install the thermostat so the hole is at 12:00. Been doing this for years and never have a problem with having to bleed the coolant system.

It was slightly below 1/4. Just put like 3-4 gallons in.

Well, that was one heck of a backfire. Pure gunshot, wish I would have recorded it. Scared the dog senseless. Though ive now figured out how to wakeup my 19yo before noon!

Here is the firing order I thought I used: https://lmr.com/products/302-firing-order

Gonna go to TDC and check dizzy

It’s lined up where I intended it. Harmonic balancer says TDC and dizzy is pointed where I wanted it. Pointed at spark plug 1 on the cap. I’ll add my reference pic in the next post.

Looks one tooth off to me
You sure it's on the compression stroke?

Im speculating it could have not been on the compression stroke. Do I just readjust the distributor? Does this mess up my valvetrain?

Ok, don't start jumping around, check and recheck, pull the #1 plug, turn the engine a complete rotation, as the piston comes up to TDC you will feel air pushing out the plug hole, I stick a screwdriver in to feel piston movement, stops moving up the 0* hash mark on the balancer will be at or very near the pointer, you marked #1 on the distributor right? Make the rotor point to that mark and it should start, then you can set timing with a light.

I quit thinking a long time ago, every time I think I get a headache.
Note: the piston rises to TDC twice, compression stroke and exhaust stroke.
I know, it confuses me too.

Second pass sounded much better as I moved literally a tooth. However, started smoking. Looked to be both sides of exhaust manifold?. Smelled closer to plastic. Could be exhaust? Could be some of the 3 gallons of PB Blaster I used? Ill try to get a better vid.
