I always intended to buy a second Stang for a project.

My first choice is a 67 like the one my folks bought new. They are just so hard to find and are so expensive Ive all but given up.

Choice number 2 was a 84-85 GT, the last of the carby's.

Choice number 3 was a 89-93 vert. I wanted to put in a IFS, cut out the shock towers and stuff a 4.6 in.

Now Im thinking about the same 89-93 vert, but with a 3.8 or a 4.0. The advantage of the 3.8 is that the 4.2 truck internals slide right in. The disadvantage is that the 3.8 is a dinosaur.

Im going to give it some thought. Im keeping the 05 for many years, and Im not sure that I want to mod the hell out of it. After I pay off the F150 and the Stang my goal is zero car payments, cash on the barrel on all future car purchases.

I still like choice number 3, depending on the cost of the IFS conversion. I can cut out the IFS by going with the V6. That saves alot and gets it on the road alot sooner.

Its also a good excuse to get another carpot in the backyard. Less to mow too.

FYI, the 87-93 mustangs were NOT equipped with the 3.8L / they all came with either the 2.3L 4cyl or the 5.0L V8

The SSM V6 in the 10's started as an '88 2.3L. They threw 3.8 stroked to 4.3, added some internals, shot some spray, and they broke into the 10s!!! Check out there site, it is very informative, and they have a lot of stuff for older V6's.

Personally I think having a project car is a great idea!

I'd love to do the same though my choice of Mustangs may not be the most popular amongst Mustang enthusiasts. If I had the time, money, and technical ability I think I'd go hunting for an old 71 or 72 fastback or Mach 1.

We all have differnt choices for a Mustang project car. When was the last time you saw a Mach 1 or a 71-73 fastback on the road? Not very often I bet.

If you want a project the 89-93 2.3s are dirt cheap, most of what needs to be changed suspension, brakes, gears, drivetrain, you would change anyway if you started with a 5.0.

I can get a 2.3 vert in nice shape for $1500 or less. If I can find a 3.8, its cheaper still. Althought the 3.8s were TB injection, it would be easier to start with a 89+ 2.3.

Its a thought anyway.

I have seen two 71-73 Fastbacks, one on Quantico, one near Fort Myer. Both are red, one is a convertible. I think that they are gorgeous! There is just something about that that appeals to the imagination. It was the same thing that happened to me when I saw the S197.

It is the same with the 65-67 Fatsbacks. The lines of the car are awesome. You just don't see it anymore until now that everyone is returning to the Golden Age of yesteryear.

And a 1971Super Cobra Jet 4V 429 w/ 375 BHP....
Or the 1971 Boss 351 w 330 HP....

where is the drool smilie when I need it!

Ford Gran Torino

So I was exploring some back streets near my new house and ran across a Ford Gran Torino with minor body damage in the right rear quarter panel. It was parked outside of an enclosure packed with cars. Not sure what the palce was exactly, as I was in a hurry.

I will have to do a little more recon tomorrow. Might be for sale....
