According to the srt's onboard quater mile thing (timers were down) it did 13.8 at 100mph+. Yea its a caliber, according to Dodge it puts down 286FWHP and a Stage one pcm will boost it 30+hp. Its a fast car for a 5door wagon.
I lined up against a mostly stock, yellow Neon SRT-4 a couple months ago with my "lightly" modded 07 Mustang GT automatic. I had the camera rolling inside the car so you can see him fade back in my rearview mirror. Click on the video below to play it....

i'd say its a drivers race if the gt was stick and stock and the guy was new to racing and the caliber being driven by a good driver.

Thinking about it, while with a good driver the SRT-4 may turn good 1/4 mile times it probably takes a better driver to get them than in a RWD mustang. So I'd imagine, all other things being equal, that the mustang has the edge beyond that of the few tenths difference.

Posted via Mobile Device 285 crank hp is right. 264whp and 279ft lbs on dyno is what I found. were goin to do it again from a 5mph roll to minimize wheel spin factor.
Is it just me, or does drag racing an automatic just look boring? Sure, they maybe faster and more consistent....but...yawwwn.

I had a modded SRT-4 line up against me before, and apparently he didn't realize that high power to the front wheels = no traction. When I hit the top of 1st gear he was in my rear view. I don't remember where this happened. It could have been a dream. All rights reserved, see dealer for details.

I agree - to some degree. However, after owning 5 stick shift Mustangs, I chose an automatic for my 07 GT for a number of reasons. Mainly...
- My '07 GT is a daily driver in a very congested metropolitan area.
- My left knee is starting to ache as I get older.
- With the supercharger & 4.10's gears I couldn't shift fast enough with a manual.
- I've won more money & trophies over the years bracket racing with automatics than manuals.
My '68 Pontiac GTO had an automatic & 425hp. I won money & trophies often with that combo at the drag strip. And nobody ever said that car looked boring going down the track.
I guess a lot of people still think a manual transmission is the only "real" performance transmission, but I beg to differ.

With a good tune, automatics are faster than manuals in these cars, and definitely more consistent. Nobody is arguing that. But some of us just have to run through the gears, myself included. But I don't look down on the autos, as I know there's many reasons to buy one.
I just turned 40 (cough) this past weekend. I've never owned an automatic trans car.
I suppose if your "thing" is drag racing and winning $ or trophies , then an automatic is probably where you want to be.
I can understand the physical requirements of a stick shift, and not feeling comfortable any more. My brother has a bum knee and stays away from the manual trans.
Traffic. I live in the metro Detroilet area. I've seen gridlock. I've had a commute of 20 miles that takes 1+ hours. I know what stop and stop traffic is like. LOL. But when there is a window of daylight, or your "first in line" at the light...those problems of creeping along in 1st/2nd gear tend to go away, if only for a short time.
I myself prefer a more "road racing" approach to my driving. I used to auto-x a Civic Si and I can't imagine driving an automatic for that sort of thing. I have auto-x'd my Mustang 1 or 2 times last year, and will probably do a bit more in 2009.
For me, it can be as simple as blipping the throttle at a stop light when you're next to another contender. Or the ability to leave rubber in a few gears or hang the tail out (in the snow...LOL)...and have the control to do it safely. Nothing would scare me more than going around a corner and having the car shift on me when I didn't want it to.
I would someday own an automatic, but I don't think I could own ONE car and have it be an automatic. A classic car or SUV/Jeep type vehicle could see duty with an automatic. But if I can have only one car, regardless of the powerplant (V8s being the best!)...make mine a manual transmission!

I used to beat srt-4's in my cammed 98 v6. It could be driver error but the srt4s arent very fast. I dont know why a stock GT wouldnt take it easy
Heh. I live in DC and work in Los Angeles... I've seen a 3 mile commute take 1+ hour!
Luckily I don't have to drive in traffic in DC since I don't work anywhere around here, and I get rental cars in LA which are all automatics. Now that I've owned both an auto (previous mustang) and the stick, I absolutely love the manual. There are just something about the noise the car makes downshifting as you are slowing down... If I ever have to do traffic commutes though, I'd probably end up getting an auto again.
