i woke up today to this:

thats right...my car is missing from my parking space behind my house! I woke up this morning, put on my spongebob boxers, look out the window...and flip out! :eek: well it turns out my car was randomly selected by the towing company to be removed at 4:15 am this morning. My car was towed from MY OWN parking lot behind my house even though i had a pass. The total is $108...they will pay half if i can prove there is a pass in the car.

WTF

In order for the tow truck operator to see whether or not i had a pass he would have had to get out of his truck and walk around to the front of our cars. Why couldnt they have just walked up to our house and knocked on our door?? I WAS STILL AWAKE LAYING IN MY BED WATCHING TV!!! im very upset.... :fuss: :mad: :uzi:

wow, that is ****ED! why would you still have to pay half when they screw up! i was in boston visiting an ex-gf. she told me to "go ahead and park anywhere" in this underground (very safe) parking garage. walked down to drive home the next day and im walking all around the garage thinking maybe i just couldnt remember where i parked. I LOST it...thought i was gonna kill someone...some ******* had my car toed cuz i was in his spot, even though the garage was almost completely EMPTY. he could have just parked in one of the 100other empty spots, nope my car was sitting in the middle of a junkyard in Dorchester (major ghetto).

Hey man, fellow OSU student. Personally, I would never bring my car within 100 miles of Columbus. My stereo was stolen out of my beater truck on the west campus lot. I would hate to see what would happen to a nice car off campus. Too much freakin crime down here. That's why I'll be getting a 1911 and concealed carry this summer. :D

thanks guys, i just got back and i actually had to pay the FULL $108....:mad:

they said they couldnt see my pass...it was sitting right under my center armrest is plain view...if the damn tow company hadnt been so worried about ripping students off they would have seen it! quite a few students have had trouble with this company btw. i called their main office and argued with them but no luck. They said if the pass was in plain view (ie hanging) they would pay half...wtf they should pay it ALL if they tow my car wrongly! I ended up hanging up on the guy and just being pissed. My car is back unharmed thank god at least. Other than that i dont know what to do...i feel like i got ripped off big time.

Go to court. Get your $108 back plus damages for every nick, ding, and scratch, you've got on that car. I don't care if it was there prior to the car being towed or not. Make it expensive for these asshats to pull crap like this. You'll likely walk away with only your $108 but Jethro from the towing company and whatever tool on campus that's responsible for this "program" will all have to be there. Make sure you name both the tow company and the school when you file in small claims court. Recoupe the court costs as well as any gas money or transporation it took you to get your car back.

yep, do what daggar said. i was lucky when i was in college, i knew all the companies in town that towed people and they knew my car so they wouldnt tow me. i worked at advance auto and would always deliver stuff to them and give them a hell of a deal on stuff i shouldnt have. but if i had been towed i would be beating someones ass for touching my car.

Oh... and sue them for the remote alarm system to have to install to keep this from happening in the future. METAL ANGUISH... OMG... How utterly traumatized you must have been! :D

Yeah UNH tried something like this with my car a few years back. I just refused to pay. Car was in an unlocked lot, so I just took it with my spares.

f'em. They sent me a letter last year telling me that they would hand it over to a collection agency if I didn't pay. I wrote back on the bill. GO AHEAD. Dumbasses would be really lucky if they found an agency willing to buy the $80 fee I owed.

Have a lawyer write em up a formal letter seeking triple damages ($324) total that you would be entitled to if you won. Do you have any documents from the school or tow company saying where the pass must be displayed from? (it would be better if nothng like that existed). How long have you lived there? How long has your car been parked there? Is it pretty recognizable?

You have a shot if you are willing to pursue.

Tow truck driver's sometimes think they can get away with anything. A lot have close ties to the police so they really push it sometimes.


I remember my friend was stopped and had the car towed for expired registration (expired at midnight and it was 12:20) Anyway he showed up at the tow yard at 7AM to get his car and they tried to charge him for TWO days storage evenb though the car had been towed 6 hours earlier that same day.
