When I bought my '98 GT over three years ago I had no idea that the 99 up cars had more power. I know this is dumb and it's caused by the way I buy cars. Friday I decide I want a Mustang. Saturday I see the car I like, talk myself out of it and buy it Sunday.
Anyway, The PI heads or the FR Blower are the only real options besides a complete motor swap in order to run with a contemporary crowd. The blower from Ford seems to be the most appealing because it was designed by the people who know my horse the best. I'm sure it doesn't help that I have a '98 (built in April 98) which is sort of a freak from what I'm told due to the transition in to the '99 model.
I see the blower is 2500. Good price. Then I see an installation kit that cost over 1100. What? I then read up on the install kit and see it includes items like a new ECU, injectors and the like. Why not include it in a single package and charge the 3600 or whatever so you get everything you need? To make it worse there are three different install kits and all have similar descriptions. How do you know you got the right one?
Seems to me almost any other blower is a better choice. Reasons: Ford makes it difficult to get everything you need in one box, it can't be intercooled if you want, and worst of all it only works on 96-98 heads. I've seen too many articles about a '98 or lower getting a blower and not being all that quick. Once they go PI everything changes. With the FR kit you are married to those heads.
Anyone here bought this thing, got it installed quickly with all parts supplied? Total price? Are you still satisfied with the performance or do you wish you'd bought a different SC so you'd be free to upgrade the heads?
