so ive read through a lot of threads and im still not sure. my 87 is stock a little msd here n there but shouldnt be over 300hp. ive heard king kobra, f1, and all japanese is bad but these fourms im reading from these guys have nos and **** or big cams and different transmissions. Ive also read that i should buy my tob seperate and make sure its oem. so as of right now im looking for a spec clutch kit does that sound right?

and whats the difference between XTR & MEGATUNING brand?

Not sure how your car is stock and anywhere near 300hp, but...
As far as a clutch goes, my preference has always been a centerforce pressure plate and motorsport disc. In my experience all throwout bearings are a crapshoot, so buy whatever i guess.

The king cobra is good too, from what i have been told, it actually is a motorsport disc and centerforce pressure plate.

Most guys overthink the clutch, unless the car is up past 350rwhp IMO just keep it simple. When my car made 340rwhp i broke the trans before the clutch went, so...

King cobra is a good clutch ive also had good luck with zoom and not so good luck with ram as far as tob goes OEM all the way unless you want to hear that thing banging around all the time

I bought a spec stage 2 for mine as I was slipping and burning the piss out of my stock clutch. The spec is a monster though and will be the demise of my current t5. no give, and does have some major grab.

Under 300HP, King Kobra with adjustable firewall adjuster and quadrant. Promotion makes great kits which are mix of Centerforce and Zoom I believe. Plus there pedal is like Huyndai light which is awesome.

I run a Ram HDX clutch here, and I really like it. It provides much better feel and is easier to depress than the stocker and definitely provides more holding force. IIRC it was under $200 for the clutch disc, pressure plate, TOB, and alignment tool. I just used the Ram TOB and it's been perfectly fine. I replaced the clutch over 2 years ago and no issues yet.

I should also add that my stock clutch lasted 12 years and 130K miles before going out on me. It only went out because I missed third when I was hammering on it on an on-ramp... the entire pressure plate exploded it was quite the mess, LOL

That's why i loved the centerforce pressure plate. I remember the first time i drove my car with it, drove that pedal into the floor board so hard, wasn't prepared for how light it was. It was a dream in traffic too.

I installed a Zoom HP series clutch with the kevlar disk a couple of months ago and so far I love it. I used the tob and pilot bearing it came with and everything is smooth and quiet. I didn't notice any difference in pedal effort either. Now it grabs about half way up instead of near the top like my old worn out stock style clutch did. The only thing that sucks if that it has a 700 mile break-in period opposed to 300-500 miles like most clutches. I guess it's because of the kevlar disk.

The HP series is rated to 498lbft torque. Zoom also carries clutch kits with lower torque ratings if you think that's overkill.

I got my tob at my local Ford dealer the was 20 some bucks
