was driving on the highway about 65 this morn. went to pass someone and as soon as i gave it a little more gas. makes a pop and the car revved. just sounded like it popped out of gear. i was like hmm and went to put it back into gear, but the shifter IS in gear.

so now when i shift to 5th there is nothing. i mean nothing, no engagement or anything, its just like another neutral....

was thinking some sort of pin broke or something.

i may just get the whole t5 rebuilt. my 4th gear synchro is going out and since i have to pull it anyways, might as well.

looks like i got to pop the ol t5 out lol

good thing i just got a new DD lol

any ideas?

Is your reverse working? The 5th gear and R work off the same pivot.

Sounds like broken gear or the dog teeth on the gear. do a rebuild. It is not hard get the video from hanlonmotorsports. It rocks! I just finished mine.
Also install new barings I have the part numbers. This will save you like 500+

Did you floor it in 5th gear?
That`s hard on a T-5.Always downshift out of 5th gear to pass.

no i didnt floor it.
i have a 3.90 gear and when passing it doesnt take but a small amount of throttle to just cruise by someone.

The 5th gear snap ring probably broke not allowing the gear to engage the synchro when shifted to 5th.

i am happy thats what it was. kind of dumb having to go through all that trouble for a small snap ring. but it will be an easy fix.

www.hanlonmotorsports will have it and the 4th gear blocker separate. I think the blocker is something like $20 and the ring is prob cheap.

If you sent it to a shop, you'd still get raped on this

HMS591003 WC BLOCKER RINGS $28.00
. 3RD & 4TH GEAR CARBON FIBER

You get two rings, one is supposed to be for the 3rd gear side also, but they are the same. If you don't need 3rd, just change the 4th gear ring and hang onto the other as a spare

I'll look for the clip for the 5th driven gear in the AM. I don't see it on their website, but i might have a spare kicking around if they don't sell one separately. You might even want to give them a call. Bob's a nice guy and if you buy the blocker rings he might even give you a spare 5th snap ring

A few years ago, my wife was driving our 93 convertible in 5th, stepped on the gas, and it just started banging, then revved. The gear had actually broken nearly all of the teeth off. It wasn't too bad working through replacing the gear, just make sure you take pictures of how the shafts look with the gears on them prior to disassembling them, or have a good diagram - but beware, there are several different versions of that transmission, and many times they aren't idiot-proof. Also, you'll need to borrow a press, or pay someone to press the gear on the shaft if that's what broke. I think I bought a used gear for $25, paid somebody $20 to press off the old gear and press on the new one, then I was set. Good luck.
