how the **** do you get the remaining piece of it out!?

This all started off with installing an H pipe which lead to breaking the header studs which required removal of the headers which required moving the dipstick tube which lead to it just snapping instead of coming out of the block like it's supposed to. It snapped off flush at the block and I'm very pissed off. I tried to make the original dip stick tube smaller so it would fit inside the broken piece and now it's broken and completely ruined as well.

i got one out of a 350 by taking a bolt and threading into the dipstick-tube and pulling it out.

Well I put a screw in it and yaked the **** out of it and it still didn't come out. **** it, I'll buy another dip stick and put it in later. I always have my check oil light and it always comes on when it's a quart low anyway.

My 302 block. The dipstick hole is the one between the two oil pan bolt holes on the top portion of the picture:

I don't see any screen? Did you mean the screen on the oil pump pickup?

88 fox: Did you pull the screw from the top or bottom? You'd have the most leverage if you're standing and pulling from above if possible. I'm not sure what else to try. This is a very unique situation

Why? It works fine. It's always came on when I'm roughly a quart low. It did the same thing on my last car too.

TheUser, I was pulling from above. I'll get another dipstick and when I do, I'll try getting this one out and replace it.

A good screw extractor would get a really good bite
inside the tube and by rotating it and pulling at the
same time it should come out.

BAD IDEA. First time you really romp on it, you'll spray oil out that hole and it's gonna burn on everything....been there/done that.

Keep trying the screw thing....that's how i got mine out. Also try a coat hanger with the end bent into a really tight J hook shape on the end...i've got'em out that way too. When threading the screw in, make sure you can get down into the piece of tubing and that you're not threading into the block/pan itself.

The proper size lag bolt is the tool of choice. The taper helps get it started.

I had the same thing happen on a 94 mustang at work....I tried the screw thing didn't work. Tried a extractor....didn't work. I threaded a small bolt in and got a small spot of weld on the bolt and tube carefully (tube was flush with the block as well) and turned and pulled at the same time. Came right out

Yes that's what I meant. Meaning, you can push it in if need be. Yeah it's not preferred, but it's nothing to get worked up about. shavings in the oilpan is bad, but a big tube isn't going to get into anything and do harm. Also, if you push it in, just drain the oil. You have a good shot that it'll flow out with the oil. Again if not, you can get in there with a telescoping magnet using the front sump oil drain and snag it that way.

mabey try putting some super glue on a coat hanger, then push it in the hole and hold it against the inside of the tube... let it set and come back later and try to twist/pull it out.

Anyone know where I can get a new dipstick? Will just about any dip stick & tube work at a parts store?

Will the dipstick off of 5.0 trucks and other cars work if I was to find one in a junk yard that doesn't break off?
