solid lifter / roller lifter question

I have a question on a solid lifter motor that came out of a ford truck. will it work in place of a roller lifter motor coming out of a grand marque (87) with aftermarket heads? I will also be using 1.6 RR with guide plates. My assumption is the lash setting (0 lash + 1/2 turn) is the same and I will have to see about push rod length. is there anything I am missing?

I'm not 100% sure I understand the question. The truck should have flat tappet lifters, instead of solid rollers. The engine itself would work, but if you're still running EFI, you'll need a 351W cam, to keep the HO firing order. Otherwise, as far as I know, the procedure to set the lash is the same with stud mount rockers.

Thanks for the response. Let me see if I can clarify a little. My brother has a grand marque that for his own reasons wants to modify a little, it has a 302 in it but the throttle body is mounted on the drivers side which limits upper intake options, that aside I have a motor rebuilt that was a truck motor and does have solid lifters in it but he wants to put it in the car. So if I understand correctly we order up a 351W cam with lifters and it will drop in and work off the EEC computer?

Ah, that makes more sense, sorry. I was thinking you were talking about this for your 92 GT listed in your signature (could be lack of reading comprehension on my part). He should be able to run a standard 302 firing order with the Grand Marquis, but it might need a MAF swap of some sort, in order to run properly. The Grand Marquis should still be a speed density engine in 87. Any aftermarket intake should work though. Just need to flip the upper plenum around.

yeah, bit of an odd build up. So I just use a standard 302 solid cam/lifter set up and it will work fine? I know that the push rods will be different, I'll have to measure up for those when I have the cam in.

Correct. The Grand Marquis should have the 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8 firing order, versus the 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8 order for the 302 HO/351W.

that and drill/tap the valley to accept the bolts for the lifter guide retainer

If the block from the truck is not a "roller ready" block (E5xx, E6xx or E7TE casting number), you need to install link-bar lifters to be able to use regular base circle HR cams..... if you use the spider-dog bones retrofit kit, you'll be limited to reduced base circle HR cams only.
