Are you going to use 3" stainless band clamps to hold the rear sections together? (I use those clamps on a lot of projects)

I'm collecting parts to make my 3 inch as well. I too, am planning on using cats. I can't stand smelling an uncat car for a daily driver.

Any reason why you put the cats after the x pipe and is you engine a 302? did you loose bottom end with the quasi sewer pipes?

That engine is a stroker 393 and, if it's like my 351, I'm sure any loss of low end is more of a gain in traction.

I would think that header diameter and primary tube length would play a much more critical role on torque and hp than exhaust system diameter.

I've seen dyno tests on various engines, and they all seem to make more power with the exhaust off the car.(open headers) so if they make the most power with no exhaust, why would making an existing system larger hurt the power?

I had a 2.5" system on my car years ago, when the motor was only about 320hp. I ended up building a new system from 3", and the car felt exactly the same afterward. I noticed no difference in low end or top end power between the 2.5" and the 3" systems.

BTW, the advantage of not runnin cats, you can put some of that fuel perfume in there. I got rootbeer flavor for my Ghia, and Banana for one of 73s
