Somebody has to have had this problem

I have a weird vibration that I need to figure out because it's getting worse. I want to go inder the car to figure it out but it's just been too cold. Ok so when i get up to speed about 70 I start noticing a vibration coming from the rear of the car that continues to get the faster I go but after I'm over like 100-110 it seems to go away but you can still feel the vibration through the shifter like crazy. It's really annoying. Oh yea when i got the pedal it's not as bad but as i soon as i let off it's worse. I hope somebody can help me out here, hopefully I've been descriptive enough.

Sounds like the driveshaft, its a good idea to scribe a mark on the shaft before you remove it for any reason, for balance purposes. You just did a clutch right?

loosen it , but leave it in the trans, and rotate it to a different position and try it out, its tedious but its trial and error, mark the position this time so you'll know where your at. Some people have this problem some dont, I did. I went with an aluminum shaft after I smacked the old shaft with a hammer doing my exhaust.

You might note paint dabs on the companion flange and the DS. These are to be lined up (the driveline parts are loosely balanced at the factory).

There are only 4 bolts at the rear flange so there are 4 possible 1/4 turn rotations. However, as Hissin50 noted there may be paint dabs on the flange to indicate where it was originally positioned. Also a possibility is that a balancing weight has come off the DS. Check to see if this has happened as well. Should be quite visible if one is missing.

ok i forgot to mention that i also have like a clicking noise coming from somewhere under the car. I can here it real good if I'm just idling in first snd I hit the pedal then let off it will click when i hit it and then another click when it lets off. Any Idea what that might be?

If you're having a clicking noise and a vibration I would guess you have a bad u joint. I own a driveshaft shop here in Colorado. Also, the companion flange on the diff(the one bolted to the pinion) is not balanced to the driveshaft so loosening the bolts and turning it should not make a difference. If you do change a joint make sure to mark the slip yoke or the flange yoke(driveshaft side) when you take them off as they are balanced only one way.

I had the same vibration that would worsen at high speeds, then settle a little when accelerating, when I got under to check it out, the ds bolts were finger loose. I tightened them, and the vibration went away.

that might be the throw out bearing

and if you have a vibration problem, you REALLY shouldnt be going 100-110 . I actually have a vibration problem too, but I try to stay under 50...

I havent fixed my vibration problem yet, but some of my theories are: axle might be slightly bent or the bearings might be bad. just something to think about

It could be the DS, as mentioned earlier, but it could also be a bad balance on your tires, a low tire, a weight fell off your rim, something in your differential, something with your transmission.
Start with checking all of your fluids as well as finding a buddy that has a DS in your area to swap for a day and check things out. If your car gets smooth and his rides like your's does, bingo. If not, then you know it's not the driveshaft. A better solution would be to spring for an AL one anyways just so you know you're good to go.

ok well i just put brand new back tires on new tranny fluid and new clutch setup and it was doing it before but it's getting worse now. I guess I just have to crawl under the car and check everything but it's just so cold.

sounds a lot like what mine was doing once. Turned out to be a bad U Joint.

when mine did that the bolts were loose as xxfaceyourfear said..i loctited them and tightened them and never had another problem..

i have a similar problem and changed my u-joints thinking that was the problem, buts its not mine....someone suggested the transmission bracket might be loose or even getting another DS maybe an aluminum one.......

I just fixed mine yesterday- bad U-joints! The needles in one of the cups had turned to dust.

Ok so yesterday was a half decent day so I go under my car and it turns out 3 out of 4 of the driveshaft bolts were loose. I tightened them up and the vibration is about 95% gone. Their is still a little bit but that's probably just normal but I want thank everybody for their input!!!

what did you tighten them to? they should be between 70-95 ft lbs

i just tightened them up by hand for now. im goin to get my dad to torque em n put a dab of loctite on them
