I still didn't get my point across quite right. Think about it this way. You say you can't afford 2 cars. So to be economical, you want to kill two birds with one stone ('er car). That is, you want a reliable, practical, fast and fun car, all rolled into one. And a BMW is certainly one way to do that. A very expensive way indeed.
But think again. What if you were to get a solid daily driver. Like a 2-3 year old Acura TL, Audi A4, VW Passat, etc. etc. etc. Then you would have classy wheels to drive year round (and still pretty sporty to boot), you'd still have your 'stang, and you'd even have some coin in your pocket (saved over buying that z4). Not only that, but any cars in or near the sedan class suggested above would be far far more practical than a z4 for many years into the future (back seat, 4 doors, hard top, winter driving, yada yada).
But hey, it's your choice. Just trying to give you something to think about.
