I know a guy that traded in an 03 GT for a Benz last year. I can't remember the exact model, but it's the 200hp SC'd I4. He's about to do the same thing (coming back). Everytime I see him, he starts telling me how much he misses his stang.

Caldwell, I like the S2000 idea. They are very respectable cars. People, complain about the lack of torque, but I've ridden in my buddy's stock S2k, and that thing was pretty quick.

Thanks man, i thought they were pretty nice cars too. They aren't overkill with style. They have their own personal subtle differences and still hold their own. So you have a powerband from 6 to 8 grand rather than from 3 to 5.

Now I won't lie. I've always paid attention to that too... same respect to what Rollin said. I know if i went and bought a 3 series, I'd be bored with it. Granted the things are quick, but it doesn't have that sex appeal. Aaaand, i've always wanted a saleen, 03-04 specifically.. but I wouldn't mind owning a sports car different than what i'm used to now. I think the s2000 will keep my interest. I hope so.

There's no doubt I'll miss the car... the white interior... the sound especially... wow. But at the same time, I wouldn't mind testin the waters on something else. Not to say I'll never buy another stang again, but it's not holding my interest as it once did.

Caldwell, this past summer I looked at cars for my wife. I looked at the 350Z convertible, S2000, Z3's, Audi TT and A4 cabrio, miata, Mr2 spyder, etc. Of them all I liked the S2000, MR2 SPyder, and 350Z the best. I ended up getting her a '00 MR2 Spyder because:
1. It was the cheapest
2. It was the rarest of all the cars I looked at (they only made 5000/yr from 2000-2005 and I NEVER see them around here)
3. It gets over 30mpg which was HUGE for us this summer
4. Its the one my wife liked the most.

As you know I was without my car all summer, so this little MR2 was my "fun" car this summer, and honestly its a blast to drive. I got more compliments when I drove this car than I ever did in the mustang. Having said that though I'd NEVER choose it over my car, but its nice to have as a secondary "fun" car. The S2000 and 350Z were WAY too much money IMO for the car you get, but the same holds true for nearly all the cars I listed. I LOVE the new saturn sky, but if it follows the solstice's track record for delivery to dealer showrooms it won't be out for a few years.

That's a good post man. I appreciate the input. I don't mind the MR2s in truth... and they're easily the most practical of the list. I find it amazing still to be honest that you got more compliments in that car than the stang. I feel bad for the stangs out there that deserve a good head turning. I totally concur with the fact that the s2000 and 350s are too much for what they are brand new. I was debating into something that you settled for, going down a few years to save freight etc... i was looking at the sky too... see i went and checked out the solstice, but i can't get passed the pontiac bumper. I've said that before but it still holds true. The sky has a much meaner approach to it, but again, you're right with the demand... And I live in Canada, so we don't get them for 2+ years.
I don't know where to begin with the miata, it's just not my thing...
and the s2000 was the cheapest in comparison to everything else.
So where do you go from there? I will test drive one before I make any rash decisions though, that i promise.

x8: it's all about who wants the car. You can get anything for it if the right buyer is there. I just lucked out with this guy, he heard i was interested in selling it and wanted to get it before i actually went ahead and put the sign up.

Caldwell- I too am in disbelief that we get more compliments on the MR2 than my car. I think some of it that no one around here knows what kind of car it is as there are no emblems on it anywhere except for the "midship runabout" (that's what MR stands for) I put on in place of the cowboy hat toyota emblem on the hood. The midship runabout emblem was the emblem that came on the MR-S as its known in Japan and it looked a LOT better than the stupid toyota one. I swear at least every time I drive the car and I'm not exagerating someone either stops me to ask what it is and tell me they like it or give me thumbs up, etc. This car definitely gave me an appreciation for power to weight ratio. Its only 138HP and it runs mid 15's at 88+mph in the 1/4 stock!?!? I may actually run my wife's this weekend at a local T&T to see what I can get out of it. One thing that does take away from its practicality is the lack of storage space as there is NONE. Really, I think it has less than 2 cubic feet of storage! I can put like 2 gallons of milk under the hood and like 2-3 bags of groceries in behind the seats and that's it.

I took the car today to a meeting I had 2.5hrs away and it was a BLAST of a trip. I had my dig. camera with me and stopped by my favorite picture location and clicked off a few of the car. Here's some pics of it in case you wanted to see it...

Having said how much I like this car, I would NEVER choose it over a mustang. I say keep your car!

anyhow, i, too, don't understand mr2>mustang. i've only seen one mr2 that i've really liked, and that's about it. too odd a design for me. the mustang is just sexy all around, and the heritage the car has is really appealing.

I understand it. Its simple. Its a car that people dont see everyday. I know i dont. Now a mustang on the other hand, people see those EVERY day all day everywhere they go. Mustangs are EVERYWHERE. So unless your mustang grabs someones attention and doesnt blend in with every other mustang, the average "joe" wont look twice at our cars.

I mostly get people who are into cars and know when they hear a healthy cam what its about. Most people wonder, whys your car sound like that? Why is it so loud?

Just some thoughts....

My old apartment was about a 2 minute walk from where these pics were taken. My current home is about 15-20 minutes from there. Honestly there are some amazing places around here for pictures. I spend a lot of time on the road and while I'm out I'm always looking for new places to shoot the cars at.

I HATED the MR2's when I first looked at them. Stock I think they look like ass, especially the '00-'02. Ours is a '00 but it has the '03 headlights and tail lights which really do make a world of difference. The previous owner installed the wheels that are on the car now, and although I wouldn't have picked them myself, they are a THOUSAND times better looking than the stock wheels. There are some increadible body kits for these cars as well, but my wife told me I'm not allowed to touch this car! LOL! She likes it as is. The front fascia is a little too snub nosed for my liking and there are aftermarket ones that stick out a little farther and look increadible, but as I said my wife says NO and its her car.

One coll thing about the MR2 is that it can be made to look EXTREMELY exotic with some of the available body kits on the market.

example: (not saying that I'd do this to one, but it looks a lot more expensive than what it actually is!)
