Hate to gay up the forms with a tire size thread but I did a search and the limited two pages gave me around about size but nothing for certain.

I just purchased some cobra r rims. 17x8 in front and 17x9 in the back. What's a good tire size to run with? So far I gathered 245 or 255/40 or 45/17 in front and 275/40 or 45/17 in the rear. What would be good for this daily driver packed with the MM torque arm package? I just need a regular street tire for now (money is funny). I keep hearing goodyears are crap.

Well 275/40/17's are no problem on a 9in rim...but whether they work on the foxes without "modifing" I'm not for sure...

On my 2000 GT I had 255/45/17's all around and they were "parrallel" with the rims...they didn't bulge out...

Run a 245/45/17 tire on front....17x8 is the factory width of the newer gt's and they run 245/45/17's from the factory...so it is a good all around tire on that size wheel...

Goodyears are the farthest from crap you can get. You want crap... Get Falkens... Kumho... Visa.... Those are crap. You get what you pay for. I'm a tech at a service/tire shop... Anyone with nice wheels on any car runs Eagle F1s. Expensive? Yes... But worth it? Most def. I see so many Kumhos and Falkens that just fall apart and wear uneven... separate... I'm not going to get in a **** throwing match with you all that run these tires.. I understand tires aren't cheap.. .and Kumhos and Falkens are nice tires for the price... I like Dunlop 5000-9000s... And Goodyear Eagle F1s. Just my .02

You summed it up right there...

The tires may not 'adhear' to the same quality control as some of the higher dollar tires like the Eagle F1's (come stock on Lightnings, Cobras, etc)...but the Kumhos, Falkens, etc...are a good reliable tire...

So safe to say 245/45/17 up front and 275/40/17 in the back should be fine.

I wonder if I should go smaller than the 275/40. I have 275/50/15 on the car now and it rubs when I corner the car or the rear drives up on an incline at an angle. Would I have that same problem? What's the next smaller size?

i have 275/40/17s on cobra rs on back of my car and they don't rub at all,but i don't have quads on my car so i don't know if that's going to be a problem.

Man, put some 275/40/17 Nitto drag radials on the back of your car. These tires are sick, and you wont go back to anything else.

Isnt 45 the stock sidewall size on a 17" rim? It is on the 94+.

When I first bought my wheels last year i bought some 245/45/17's all around, well after all the rubbing getting on my nerves (you could forget about doin' u-turns) I decided to change them out, and went with 235/45/17's in the front and 275/40/17's in the rear, so far so good. The only time they rub in the front now is if I'm turning VERY sharp, like in a parking lot.

AS of now my fronts rub with 225/60/15. So I might take the 235/45/17 route for the fronts.

Whats up Legendary,

Considering we pretty much have the same suspension setup, I can tell you that the 275/45's will fit in the rear. Mine even fit with the quads on, however I pulled those off with the new suspension, so it has even more clearance. Up front I run either a 235 or a 240, however I have wider rims up front so you should be fine there too.

FYI, I also run Falkens. My rears lasted forever, however they don't hook for shiiite. So if you want some hella long lasting tires, go for it. Otherwise get some radials as I plan to.

I have seen people cut and roll the inner lip on foxes and even put spacers in the rear springs to get taller tires on the rear. I dont recommend doing either.

Its really not the width of the tire thats the problem... its how tall you go with the tire. Anything over 26-27" on a fox will rub most likely.

Ideal tire size for a 17x8 wheel is a 245/45. For the 17x9, a 255/40 is the ideal size. 275s are ideally for 9.5s but will work on anything from a 9 to an 11. Hope this helps you out.

Try Tires by Mark in the Valley. Chatsworth to be exact on Topanga. They have killer prices on Falkens. I don't care what anybody says, the Falken Ziex is by far the best tire you can buy in its price range. They are very good period. I am not a big goodyear fan because their regular tires are crappy and expensive and their high end tires are good but soooooo expensive. I know you get what you pay for but with the high end goodyears you mostly pay for the name. Just my opinion.
